Dr. Amitkumar R. Patel, MD

This hospitalist made an utterly inappropriate comment to my father during his hospital stay. When we were discussing how my dad may have gotten e coli, my dad said he had hadn't eaten out but had recently gone to a Greek restaurant. Shockingly, Dr. Amitkumar Patel responded, "Blame the immigrants." This kind of political discourse is utterly inappropriate, especially in a healthcare setting and should lead to a warning or disciplinary action. An 84 year old man in this doctor’s care should NEVER become the target of this doctor’s political beliefs, which were utterly inappropriate, unprofessional and completely unwarranted. I was frankly aghast when I heard this. Not acceptable.

The absolute worst doctor I have ever met. His bedside manner was horrendous. I was admitted to the hospital and without letting me know, he changed the plan that the two other doctors had set for my care. When I asked him about it, he became defensive and abrasive. I was forced into undergoing multiple tests that the other doctors did not want me to go through. Then, he dictated a plan for when I was to go home. 3 hours later, he changed this plan based on false information and refused to let me talk. He interrupted every time I tried to talk and I couldn’t even get a sentence out. He does not care about his patients. He contradicted and lied about 4 different plans of care throughout the day I was at the hospital. When he was done talking, he left the room without giving me a chance to ask questions. He did not provide the medication that he told me he would provide and then lied about symptoms that would occur when stopping this medication suddenly. I would never trust this doctor… with anyone you love or yourself as he is incredibly self-centered and careless when it comes to his patients. He should never be allowed to work with patients again as he could care less about their well-being. I am filing a formal complaint for malpractice against him and I suggest that anyone who interacts with him do the same as he is not a safe doctor. I was sent home with a 21,000 white blood cell count and vomiting up everything I consumed; yet, according to him, I was “fine”.

There is no way that I could express my appreciation for Dr. Patel in the help,understanding, professionalism,support and kindness he showed my entire family of 9 children and especially my wonderful wife. THANK YOU AGAIN
