Dr. Andrej Aleksandar Petrov, MD

Dr. Petrov has always given me great care and attention to my asthma and allergies. He listens to you and is very compassionate. I would recommend him to anyone needing a great doctor. I have been going to him for 9 years.

I went to see Dr. Petrov for off-and-on breathing difficulties, and he scheduled me for a test. On the day of the test, a very inexperienced intern controlled the equipment, and kept bumping and irritating my throat with it, making me cough and gag. He saw the irritation and said it *might* fit his diagnosis, but that the test wasn't conclusion. However, the next time I saw him, the story had changed, and he was adamant that I did have what the test looked for, and told me basically to stop fussing over my symptoms because I'd "just have to live with it." I didn't agree with the diagnosis, and I didn't like the manner. Thank goodness I went to another doctor for a second opinion!

I was very frustrated by an allergy to a medication that is absolutely necessary for me to take on a daily basis. The doctor who prescribed the medication just kept changing it to a different brand or type of the same medicine, and each time I had a reaction to it, and each time he told me it was highly unlikely that I was allergic to this type of medicine. Finally I saw Dr. Petrov and he was able to witness the reactions, confirm the allergy and talk to the other doctor. Between the two of them they came up with a plan to desensitize me to a specific "bio-identical" type of the medicine and Dr. Petrov was great at explaining to me what was causing the reactions and how to aviod them in the future. During the desensitization he was attentive and listened to me if I had a concern or complaint and even though we are having to take things slower than usual, and I wasn't completely desensitized in one day, overall I am happy with the treatment I have received and continue to receive… from Dr. Petrov and his fine staff. Everyone in his office is professional and courteous and I get the sense that they geniunely care about me as a person. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs help with or has questions about allergies.

I saw Dr. Petrov one time and I will never go to him again because he was rude and dismissive, and his diagnostic skills were questionable. I have recently been diagnosed with a rare neuromuscular disease and I am getting good care from my Rheumatologist. I have always struggled with allergies and have seen a direct relationship with certain foods and my disease symptoms. I was referred to Dr. Petrov by my PCP. I just wanted to know if there were any foods that may be contributing to my problems. The resident who did my intake was robotic and unable to have a conversation, she only wanted the answers for the questions on her form and if I elaborated because the answers were not all black or white, she seemed bothered that my answers were not just 'yes or no'. Then Dr. Petrov came in and he put words in my mouth and seemed to think I thought these suspected food allergies caused my disease. I never said that, but he was stuck on that idea. I feel as though I can have an educated… conversation about allergies, but he was so dismissive we did not have a discussion, it was a speech that he seems to have had prepared. I have had problems with wheat for years and wanted to be tested for celiacs. I called the office ahead of time to ask if I need to add wheat back into my diet before the test and they did not know and then came back and said no. I asked him the same and he said no. I have read from many reputable sources that a true test is not possible unless you are consuming wheat, I haven't consumed it for quite some time. I think he just wanted me to get out of his office because I wasn't having an asthma attack at the moment. I am not a hypochondriac, in fact I am almost the opposite, I often stay in denial of medical problems and hope they just go away. But when I left there I felt he had me all wrong and just thought I was trying to tell him what to do. He was adamant about giving me an epipen and I didn't even want one. They took blood and said come back next year unless you have a problem. They did now want to discuss test results with me. I got my results on my computer and a certain antibody was flagged as high and no one from the office contacted me. I told my PCP and she had further tests done based on that result. I have probably said too much, but I just want my experience to be available to others before they decide to go to him.

Dr. Petrov truly looks out for the best interests of his patients and will spend as much time with them as necessary to come up with an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. He spent a very long time with me, testing me with the same allergen at stronger doses when he suspected a false negative. He is caring, knowledgeable, and thorough. What more can you ask for?
