Dr. Barbara Ellen Swan, MD

I went to see Dr. Swan as a referral from my rheumatologist. I have multiple spinal problems and gave her my entire history of such issues that continue to worsen. My rheumatologist hoped that Dr. Swan would have a helpful perspective of my problems, including their origin. She suggested sleep, yoga & relaxation (yeah, been there- done that w/ sleep aids over the years & to no avail). These were very 'soft' solutions to my my severe muscular-skeletal issues and previous treatments from pain specialists and rheums. She also didn't see how she could help me beyond that appointment, except maybe some sleep aid rx. It was offensive to be treated so lightly & nonchalantly. The appointment was a huge waste of time.

I think she has too many patients. She seemed tired and stressed out to me. i was at west penn before closing

I'm a difficult case. She is very courteous and spends time with me. She is open to my feedback.She is on the ball when communicating info to other doctor's I see.I know the medical field is a science and if the problem cannot be found it is not because of her lack of effort. Sometimes it is what it is.She does not make me feel inadequate or that it is all in my head.

Believes that you can control physical pain using simple relaxation techniques and yoga. And that you must practice it twice a day for 1/2 at a time. I would like to know how many if any people this actually works for. Especially if you have proven nerve damage and a prior back surgery.
