Biography & Background: Dr Puig has been practicing hair restoration surgery since 1973. He currently is on the Board of Governors, and is Treasurer of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS). A committed educator Dr. Puig has chaired the ISHRS Fellowship Training Committee, the Core Curriculum Core Competency Committee, the Finance committee, and organized both basics courses and live surgery workshops. While servicing as President of the AHLC, that organization responded to the public%u2019s request that Hair Restoration Surgeons develop a standard measure of competence with in their field; so in the fall 1996, Puig organized a meeting of representatives from the AACS, AAFPS, ASDS, ADA, AHLC, and the ISHRS to discuss the need for and possible development of a Board of Examiners in the field of hair restoration surgery. Over the next few months the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery was incorporated, and Dr. Puig was elected to the Treasurers post. Over the next 8 years Dr. Puig served that organization as its Treasurer, Vice President, Oral Exam Editor, and is now its President. In 2000 Dr. Puig sold his hair restoration surgery practice to Medical Hair Restoration and joined the staff of Leavitt Medical Group. Shortly after joining the group, Dr. Leavitt requested the Dr. Puig assume responsibility for the MHR Fellowship Training Program for physician%u2019s in hair restoration surgery. Over the years the Program trained 15 Fellows, many of whom have already successfully navigated the ABHRS examination process. In Feb 2002 Dr. Leavitt asked Dr Puig to be his Associate Medical Director. Since that time he has helped to develop a new Policy Operations Manual, a new Medical Charting System, and the Six Sigma Quality Improvement System. In 2008 Dr. Puig left MHR and started Physician%u2019s Hair Restoration Center and medical Spa in LaCenterra, Katy Texas. There he not only provides the diagnosis and treatment of all forms of hair loss, but also medical anti-aging and skin care services including Botox, facial fillers, hair removal, photo-facials, Hydrafacial, and medical skin care products. Being somewhat of a contemporary renaissance man, Dr. Puig has interests outside of cosmetic and hair restoration surgery. An accomplished musician, be plays bass is several jazz bands around Houston. He enjoys training horses, and is currently working with a 9 year old white quarter horse named Skipper. A born again Christian, Puig has worked with Living Water International (LWI), a Christian ministry that trains and equips Christians in the third world to drill fresh water wells, and assists third world Christian physicians in caring for the poor of their communities. LWI is currently working in 22 countries throughout Central and South America, Africa, the Eastern Europe and Asia. |
