Personal Statement: George E. Kleiber, DO, FACC certified in internal medicine and cardiology by the American College of Osteopathic Internists, specializes in invasive diagnostic cardiology and nuclear cardiology. He is a fellow in the American College of Osteopathic Internists, the American College of Cardiology, American Society for Angiography and Intervention, and the American College of Physicians. In 1968, Dr. Kleiber graduated cum laude from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania and served his internship and residency in internal medicine at Zieger Osteopathic, Detroit General, Grace Hospital, and Detroit Osteopathic Hospitals in Michigan, completing his training as a fellow in cardiology at the University of Michigan Medical Center in 1973 as the first DO to do so at that institution. As a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy, he served as an internist and chief of cardiology at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina (1973-1975) where he was co-director of the coronary and intensive care units. While in the Navy, Dr. Kleiber received the highest award for teaching and also worked at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He has served as instructor at the Medical University of Southern Carolina and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Training in nuclear cardiology at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in England and coronary angioplasty at Beth Israel Hospital (Harvard's teaching hospital) in Massachusetts and the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota added another dimension to Dr. Kleiber's expertise. He is licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory and Cardiology Commission and is a professor of internal medicine at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. Dr. Kleiber has been awarded many scholarships and grants from a variety of institutions and associations to further research and education, and has received a distinguished service award from the American Heart Association. Dr. Kleiber has been a guest lecturer at numerous medical associations. He has co-authored articles for the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, Journal of the South Carolina Medical Association, Michigan Osteopathic Journal, Texas Heart Journal, Modern Medicine, DO, Michigan Medicine, Lansing City Magazine, Clinical Research, and the TCI Monitor. Dr. Kleiber's professional memberships include the American College of Cardiology, American College of Osteopathic Internists, American Osteopathic Association, American Heart Association, American Thoracic Society, American Federation for Clinical Research, Michigan State Medical Society, editorial consultant for the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, and the American Medical Joggers Association. |
