Dr. DiMaio saved me from having a Whipple procedure. I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but 3 biopsies(2 needle and 1 core) were inconclusive in finding cancer cells. A fever brought on by my "temporary" biliary stent put me back in Sloan 10 days before my surgery. Dr. DiMaio took the core biopsy, and when it came back inconclusive, suggested I go on a regimen of Prednisone for 3 weeks. If the pancreas shrunk, I did not have cancer, but a very infrequent disease called Autoimmune Pancreatitis(AIP), which is what it turned out to be. Less than 5% of those diagnosed with Panc. cancer actually have AIP. I am one of the lucky few. If Dr. DiMaio did not try Prednisone first, I would have had the Whipple, only to find out later on that it was not necessary.Thank you, Dr. DiMaio
