DR. RATNER HAS HELPED SAVE MY VISION. HE WAS ABLE RE- ATTACH DETACHED RETINA ON TWO OCCASIONS. HE HAS VERY CALMING VOICE DEMEANOR.

Dr. Ratner was rude and condescending to my elderly parent, he demonstrated absolutely no tolerance, and no patience.

This review is in relation to services performed many years ago (1984), when I was a teenager living in El Paso, TX. I had a major/giant retinal detachment and went through an extensive, 7+ hours, surgery and many laser treatments over the course of 6 months. I believe I had been one of the worst cases he had seen to that point and was documented in medical journals. I am extremely fortunate to have had Dr. Ratner as my doctor and to have any vision saved at all. I have seen many other doctors in the past 34 years in many states for my annual check-ups and every single one has mentioned the impressive job Dr. Ratner did. He may not be warm and fuzzy, but he is one heck of an eye doctor which is what you want if you're faced with a serious problem.

I'm trying to figure out why this Dr. has gotten such a bum rap in reviews. Granted, he's not the picture of an outgoing, smiling, perky human being. But he's a nice man and took the time to explain everything to me and respond to all my questions with regards to some floaters and flashes that I have been getting. He examined my retina thoroughly and said it was in fine shape. There aren't that many retina specialists in Westchester. I don't see any issue going to him.

He has a slight "edge" in communicating but he is a highly skilled surgeon and diagnostician.

I asked simple questions about the success rate of the treatment, the pros and cons of the treatment, asked for his medical opinion -- Dr. Ratner was extremely arrogant and rude. He told me I could go "google it". He was very snippy. Did not make me feel at all comfortable with him or trusting that he was doing the right thing for me. He may be an excellent doctor, I don't know--but he doesn't know how to communicate and needs to learn some compassion.
