Dr. David Gene Moore, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Moore’s for 34 years. I moved an hour and a half away from Rockford 5 1/2 years ago, but kept him as my doctor, because he is always very thorough, is never in a rush, and genuinely cares for his patients. I will never find another doctor that will even begin to fill his shoes, when he retires! The best doctor ever!!!

During my first appointment with Dr. Moore when I was 25, he diagnosed me with "vulvar vestibulitis," an outdated term for vestibulodynia, an idiopathic chronic vulvovaginal pain disorder that makes genital contact painful. He told me, verbatim, "I've seen people get divorced over this." He then outlined a course of trial-and-error treatment options that ended with 1) topical interferon injections that would produce effects similar to chemotherapy for approximately 24 hours following each injection and 2) vestibulectomy, or surgical removal and recreation of the vulva. He ended the appointment by printing out research on vulvar vestibulitis from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s to give to me; it was 2015 at the time. After leaving his office, I immediately conducted my own research and found that, in addition to "vulvar vestibulitis" being an outdated term, interferon injections for vestibulodynia is an outdated treatment. I found a review article on the condition published within the… previous five years and co-authored by Dr. Andrew Goldstein, head of the Center for Vulvovaginal Disorders, and brought it to Dr. Moore at my second appointment. He dismissed the research out of hand, saying that it was not reliable, that it was not "written by doctors." It was obvious from his words and demeanor that he wanted to be the authority and he did not appreciate me conducting my own research or questioning his recommended course of treatment. My third appointment was for a transvaginal ultrasound to rule out any structural abnormalities or other perceivable physical causes of my pain. During the procedure, Dr. Moore, without asking or giving any warning, bounced the wand, inserted inside my vagina, up and down on one of the organs within the vaginal tract. He made a comment about how, "That doesn't hurt, right?", to which I responded that it did hurt because all penetration hurt with my condition. He did not apologize or respond in any way. After that, I found a new ob/gyn in the Rockford area and she put me on a nerve pain medication that has put me in remission without side effects. I cannot warn people away from Dr. David Moore enough: whether or not people have had good experiences with him, he is capable of doing real harm because he has demonstrated that he does not always stay up to date with medical research and treatment and does not always listen to his patients.

Very patient, explains everything. Takes all the time you need to listen and give you plenty of information to make you feel at ease & confident.

Dr. Moore listens, genuinely cares about my well being---both physical and emotional, gives me so much good information, and I always leave my appointment confident that I am well cared for by a thorough physician. Not sure what I will do when he eventually retires. I would recommend him to any woman that asked without hesitation!

Doctor Moore makes sure you understand what he is saying and makes you feel comfortable discussing some otherwise uncomfortable subjects! Very pleased with his care.

Dr. Moore, Is a very special doctor. He has always been very compassionate, knowledgeable, understanding and courteous. I would recommend him to anyone. I feel very lucky to have him as my OB/GYN. His staff is professional, detailed, and excellent. Trish, is one of his nurses and she is wonderful. Keep up the great work. Thank you!

He is my favorite doctor...I wouldn't think many women could probably say that their gyno is their favorite dr! His nurses are amazing as well, they have a great team and approach!!
