My mother was told she needed an EKG, I brought her in the morning of 05-10-2011 at 10:00 am. I noticed when I picked her up that she was SOB, I drove to your office and informed the nuse of her SOB and edema in both ankles. She took my mother back did the EKG told me she would talk to you and call me back, when my mother and I got in the car I ask her if the nurse checked her oxygen level and/or listened to her lungs, and mother said no she did nothing but the EKG, so I waited for the call, when they called me back I was told that you said to elevate her feet and follow up with Dr. Headstream, I told the nurse they were swollen when she got out of bed and they had been elevated for 8 hours while she was sleeping, ,I said thank you and called doctor Headstreams office and told them she needed to see a doctor now!I Decribed the S/S and they told me to bring her in ,she had a chest x-ray and her saturation level was 83!!! Teresa Headstream PA; told me she had fluid on her lungs and was in conjestive heart failure, she was put on 60mg of furosemide x4 days today is 05-12-2011 and has lost eight pounds thus far, my frustration is the fact that the nurse only did what you told her to do and when was told of her S/S she did nothing, as a prudent nurse she should at least listen to lung sounds and checked her 02sat! very basic nursing! A person that has no medical background might have taken there loved home and within three days they could be dead! Nurses are not only supposed to take a doctors orders but also be aware problems that may arise with patients in the specialized field the nurse is working in. A nurse should go above and beyond what is ask of her from the doctor ,she just might save a life! I felt that you should know this so maybe you can explain to her that S/S should be addressed in the simplest form, by taking five minutes for a simple assessment instead of making assumptions, you are an excellent doctor and you should have an excellent staff, I am not saying she is not a good nurse but people can become complacent and that could cost a life!I hope this imformation may improve quality of care and make the nurse realize just how important her job really is,thank you for your time. sincerly,Twila Richards
