Dr. Derek Addison Duke, MD

I had to retire sooner than I wished as I could no longer endure the pain extending from my very low back down my legs. I resisted surgery in CA but when I heard about Dr Duke here and did my research, I was able to go forward. I am so happy I did as I am pain free! DR DUKE GAVE ME MY LIFE BACK AND I WILL ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL FOR HIS SKILL.

I am 8 weeks post laminectomy. And I feel great. Dr. Duke and his PA Ken and surgery scheduler Josie are a great team. As a retired RN I look for not only a skilled, intelligent, friendly doctor, but also who he has supporting him. This “team” kept me informed and educated. I felt well cared for.

I had back surgery about 3 yrs ago with Derek duke. Before surgery he told me he has a 95% success rate with my injury. It had been about 6 yrs since my initial injury of my back but after meeting him he gave me considerable optimism about going forward with back surgery. After surgery many months after I was in a much worse condition. The reason why I’m writing this review is because at my 6 month follow up he told me if a certain amount of time passes from injuring your back to when you have surgery, the nerves can “scare up” if that happens your situations is basically permanent. I TOLD HIM THIS IS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD HAVE DISCLOSED TO ME BEFORE I ELECTED TO HAVE SURGERY WITH YOU so I could have made the best informed decision for my well being. The bottom line he put his commission from surgery ahead of my well being. Also if you go online he has been barred from testifying in medical cases because he was getting paid huge money from insurance companies to provide “expert… testimony” he was found to be ruling in the favor of inurance some 95% of the time. !

I am Bill Biler and live in Henderson NV, I found myself unable to walk or sit last year. I was rushed to a Saturday morning surgery where Doctor Derek Duke literally saved my life and my ability to make a living for my family. I walked out of Saint Rose pain free and was back to work on Monday. Since I cannot take painkillers I felt only stiffness and very slight surgery pain around the new lump on my back. The pain only lasted three weeks and the lump left from surgery to my spinal column has completely gone back to normal. I have continued to work 10 hours a day 6 days a week for this last year and cannot tell I ever had a spinal injury. Zero pain, full range of motion and my life back. My surgery included lamectomy and disckectomy

Before you consider a laminectomy with a fusion do your homework. I'm not necessarily saying it was Dr. Duke's fault at all, but it failed. First he tells you recovery is 1 month. I have to say Josie, his scheduler, was very patient with me. She finally said probably 8 months before pain is gone. A full year before you know if it works. I finally asked for another MRI. So after now a year I went back to him, he just said I was 1 in a 1000 where it failed. "Just other things going on" is what he said. Well my pain is at the operation site. I have read blogs so it can happen. So before you go ahead with this type of surgery really think twice. I've had a miserable year and now have to look into a spinal stimulator for pain. I could have done that first.

If I could give this doctor n his staff 10 stars I would. Awesome.surgery was very successful with minimal pain

I waited two hours beyond my appointment time to see Dr. Duke. I waited an hour at my last appointment. He, and his staff, do not seem to recognize that this lack of consideration reflect negatively on his professionalism. There was no attempt to advise me of this delay. There was no recognition that the patient may have other appointments or obligations outside his office. It is difficult to take his advice when he and his staff are so cavalier about his patient's time and needs. It would be difficult to entrust any surgical procedure to Dr. Duke. I could never be totally certain he'd ever show up, let-alone do a competent job.

I haven't had my surgery yet but will next month. I found Dr. Duke very pleasant and took the time to explain my surgery (disc fusion). I have been suffering for over a year with daily pain due to a herniated disc. After therapy did nothing to relieve I saw Dr. Peoples, who I loved. He no longer does this type of surgery but told me if he had to have the surgery himself, he would only let Dr. Duke do it. I will come back after the surgery with another review.

I would not let another doctor touch my back except Dr. Duke. He was fantastic. Very caring and pleasant to talk to. I would highly recommend him to anyone requiring his services
