Dr. Donald Lee Lamm, MD

We were so fortunate to find Dr Lamm thirteen years ago after another urologist diagnosed my husband with bladder cancer and performed a surgery to remove his tumor. It was less than a month after that surgery that we sought another opinion from Dr. Lamm. His office got us in right away, he saw my husband, performed a cystoscopy and found that the tumor had already returned. He scheduled him for surgery within days to remove the tumor. For the next 12 years, Dr Lamm and his amazing assistant Jamaka provided the most excellent care! Dr. Lamm's protocol is used by urologists around the globe and he is held in very high regard by patients and doctors. When he retired last June, we were very sad and will always be grateful for the care that Dr. Lamm and his team provided to save my husbands life. He is by far the finest physician we have ever come across and we wish him all the best.

I am writing this review in hope to save someone’s life. My husband came to see Dr. Lamm in early May because his PSA was elevated and was having difficulty urinating. Dr. Lamm ordered a MRI scan. A few days later he called with the results saying they found a mass in his bladder and he had him come back a week later to perform a cystoscopy for further evaluation and to send of a sample to pathology of what he called “a Pap smear”. The pathology from his cystoscopy came back negative for bladder cancer, he said that it could be false negative and to come back and see him in 6 months.. We lost our daughter 1 1/2 years ago to breast cancer. Dr. Lamm is aware of my husbands history of being BRCA1 positive and the loss of our daughter to cancer. When we questioned him on waiting 6 months to come back (knowing how aggressive BRCA1 is if it is cancer) he said well come back in 3 months and we can do a urine test for cancer, knowing their is a tumor growing inside my husbands bladder.… Dr. Lamm was also supposed to call in a prescription to help shrink his prostate to give him some relief, he never called it in. We tried for 2 weeks to get the prescription called in from his office. My husband never got it. Needless to say we immediately started making phone calls to find a new Dr. We truly feel it was a blessing that my husband was able to get in (almost immediately) to Mayo Clinic. After picking up the radiologist report (Dr. Lamm had) read over what the Radiologist had found from the scan it clearly stated in addition to the mass that they saw what appeared to be metastasis in his lymphnode and needs more testing. He is currently being treated by Mayo and was diagnosed with stage IV small cell carcinoma prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bladder and lymph node. I am confidant to say that if my husband continued to be Dr. Lamm’s patient he would not be here today. I believe Dr. Lamm was a good doctor in his time, but it’s time to retire. I understand medicine is a practice, he’s an oncologist, his job is about cancer, he has people’s lives in their hands everyday, cancer doesn’t just stop growing and go away, you need a proper diagnoses and immediate treatment. Just complete negligence and incompetent!

I've been under Dr. Lamm's care for my bladder cancer since my previous doctor "left the state" a couple of weeks after operating on me. I was amazed at how much time Dr. Lamm spent with me on my first visit to give me an overview of his methodology and answer all my questions. He performed a follow-up TURBT surgery to ensure that all the tumor was gone. That surgery was more thorough than the first one I'd received from another doctor in that Dr. Lamm was sure to scrape off some muscle tissue for an accurate biopsy and staging. I left the hospital after only a couple of hours of recovery room time and had a much more comfortable catheter than I'd had following the first surgery. Dr. Lamm also instructed me on how to remove the catheter pain free on my own while taking a shower. I've now been on Dr. Lamm's BCG maintenance program for a year and I couldn't be more appreciative of his expertise and his steady hands. The BCG instillations have been quick and pain-free. I've… received quarterly cystoscopies with no issues. As an example of Dr. Lamm's responsiveness, I had to reach him through his answering service one Saturday morning when I thought I was having a reaction to immunotherapy. Dr. Lamm called back quickly and listened to my concerns and posed several questions. He quickly and accurately explained that I had probably just developed an inguinal hernia (no doubt from my zest to work in the yard after being clear from bladder cancer). Dr. Lamm has a fabulous, folksy manner and exudes confidence in a way that demonstrates his deep knowledge and ever-present drive to learn more about how to beat the cancer beast.

I was referred to Dr. Lamm by a Urology Oncologist at the University of Colorado Health Center, who confirmed my bladder cancer. Dr. Lamm did the surgery and all went well. two months later, I noticed a lot of blood in my urine. I called Dr. Lamms office and asked to speak either with Dr. Lamm or Jamaka, his assistant. I didn't receive a call back that day nor the next day. I went to the ER and was admitted to the hospital. the problem wasn't my bladder, but I never did receive that call back from his office. two days ago, I called to find out how often I should be getting checked for recurring cancer. I asked for Jamaka. as of today she did not return my call. I called and asked Dr. Lamm to call. He called within a few hours. I told him the trouble I was having with his office. I asked how often I should be getting checked, he said every 3 to 4 months. i'm about 2 months over due. no one ever told me that or made an appointment. He's probably forgotten more than most… Urologists have learned, but his mistake is trusting his staff.

Very knowledgeable physician. Very competent doing procedures. Go here if you have urological cancer.

Dr. Lamm did not know why I was at his office to see him. I waited over an hour to see him. Overall a very scary visit.
