He overdosed my husband on his pain medication by 2400%. He has a medtronics implanted pain pump. He was trying to get off the pump because of complications that the medication was causing. He became very constipated and it caused a severe hernia and he wanted releif from the constipation. He began his reduction at a very small amount telling him they could not do it fast or he may have cardiac arrest or stop breathing. 5% (of total dose) each 2 weeks. He had been doing this for 18 months and was 2 reductions away from being off the pump, he went in for for a reduction this time 10%, and when I came home from work he wasn't feeling well, we both thought he was just going through withdrawals and now that it was nearly gone, it was just more serve than normal. So he went to the place where they reduce the pump, they called the doctor and increase it 5% and he asked if they could give him an IV to help get some fluid in him, since he had been vomiting non-stop for 24 hours, so they did. He came home, seemed to feel a little better, but still very sick. About a week later, he got a call from the pharmasist telling him he had been given the wrong dose and it was actually more than he should have received. (They didn't tell him how much more, he had to get that from the hospital where he gets the pump filled) It was 2400% more, apparently they dosed him his daily amount, but instead of dividing it into 24 hourly doses, they gave him 24 doses each hour. Then when he went to his next appointment, the doctor convienently became too busy to see him, first it was an urgent call, then someone came in that needed to see him, then after waiting forever, my husband left. BE VERY CAREFUL with this doctor, he is in his 70's and needs to RETIRE!!!!!!
