Dr Summers was born and raised in Missouri, completed undergraduate studies in Molecular Biology at University of Colorado. He returned to Missouri for medical school and General Surgery residency at Saint Louis University. He subsequently moved to New York City where he completed Colon and Rectal Surgery fellowship training at Mount Sinai Hospital. He began practice in New York City in 2004 and returned to Missouri and has been in practice in St Louis since 2012.Dr. Summers has held academic appointments at Weill Cornell Medical College and Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He is board certified in General Surgery and Colon & Rectal Surgery, and he is a Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and is a Fellow with the American College of Surgeons.His practice focus is on the treatment for the broad range of diseases involving the colon, rectum and anus including, colon and rectal cancer, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, and …anorectal disorders. He also has special interest in re-operative abdominal and pelvic surgery as well as multidisciplinary approaches to pelvic disorders such as endometriosis and GYN malignancies He utilizes minimally-invasive techniques including laparoscopy, robotics, and trans-anal endoscopic microsurgery as appropriate.

Dr. Summers explained my problem in a manner I could easily understand. He has excellent bedside manner and made me feel comfortable before and after the surgery. The surgery was a complete success due to his excellent care, knowledge and skills. I am grateful to Dr. Summers.

I like Dr. Summers, he is very knowledgeable and well read, his office and bedside manner is excellent and you leave knowing more than when you came in.

In early 2014 I went to Dr. Summers. I had already had multiple abdominal surgeries, and my last was a chopped up colostomy bag. I feared getting cut open again, which was what I was told would happen. Dr. Summers reversed my colostomy through the hole the colostomy bag was in. He spent several hours cleaning up scar tissue while he was in there! I am forever grateful for the wonderful job he did for me!!

I have seen a lot of doctors over the years as I live life LARGE. As such, I get injured quite a bit! Dr. Summers is extraordinary. He took 45 minutes to speak with me about my medical history and condition. He was professional, kind, inquisitive, and informative. I can't say enough good things about him. He is certainly one of the finest medical professionals that I have ever met. A great guy.

Dr. Summers answered all of my questions, and addressed all of my concerns. He was professional and courteous. Overall I think that he is an excellent doctor.
