Board-certified orthopedic surgeon Douglas Murphy, MD, brings over 30 years of experience to his patients at Metro Orthopedics & Sports Therapy in Potomac, Maryland. Originally from Illinois, Dr. Murphy completed his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. Since moving to Maryland in 2007, he has been involved with organized medicine at the state and county level. He was the first chief of the medical staff when Holy Cross Germantown hospital opened in 2014 and currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Holy Cross Health.Dr. Murphy has extensive clinical experience in orthopedics and has been doing anterior and minimally invasive hip replacements almost exclusively since 2011. He has performed thousands of knee replacements and arthroscopic procedures, and takes great care to educate all patients on every option before making a shared decision on what surgical procedure might be the best choice.

Didn't visit after operation, didn't return phone call the following day. Didn't leave notes for doctor that took over for a follow-up visit 2 weeks after surgery. Was late for two of my follow visits, which were his first appointment of the day.

I went in to Holy Cross Hospital about 12 weeks ago with 3 fractured bones in my right foot as well as a mild displacement. I was recommended to see Dr. Murphy and for weeks he'd been telling me that it's healing and he'd see me in 3 weeks. I finally took it upon myself to see another doctor, who said I should've had surgery from the start. I am now 12 weeks into the process and still in so much pain due to Dr. Murphy's lack of care. I have been unable to drive due to the injury which also makes me unable to work, and I am still looking at another 8 weeks in recovery after the surgery where they will be inserting 2 screws and 3 plates. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND DOCTOR MURPHY.

Great experiences with having both hips replaced. the first in February, the second ten days ago.

I have been under the care of Dr. Murphy for two knee arthoscopies and a glenoid dysplaycia on-going issue and feel he is a remarkable surgeon and shows extreme care for his patients. The Olney and Germantown offices are also most efficient in their support roles.

The staff gave me info of another office I would need to see without me self searching and I really appreciate that. Very friendly group of people to meet.

I don't feel the doctor explained the possible complications of the surgerical procedure nor gave any long term prognosis or possible outcome scenerios. At the first visit after surgery we were told "it's healing well and you can put weight on it". Therefore, we were totally unprepared for the second visit. There was some difficulty with the straightness of the leg. Xrays were taken. The support plate/ screws which were inserted during surgery appearently broke about 6 weeks after surgery. Now, another surgery is required! Who makes this euipment and why even use it....?
