Dr. Douglas Wilfred Roane, MD

I was deeply disappointed in my experience with Dr. Roane. Despite a long-documented history of autoimmune symptoms—including 4 positive ANA over the past year, degenerative spine issues, confirmed lesions on my spine, brain, and liver, and a strong clinical response to prednisone—my concerns were entirely dismissed. He made broad assumptions based solely on my anxiety diagnosis and stated I “answered yes to too many symptoms,” as if that invalidated my lived experience. He did not review my MRI reports or autoimmune findings, and he contradicted my primary care provider and neurologist —who had been tracking my autoimmune labs for over a year—with a condescending tone. I came to this appointment after waiting over a year, hopeful for answers, only to be told it was “all in my head.” I even brought my mother as a witness to ensure my symptoms were clearly communicated. This visit left me in tears. This doctor’s approach may delay care for patients with complex autoimmune symptoms. I… urge others with lupus or similar concerns to seek a provider who listens, reviews full records, and shows compassion. This experience was invalidating and harmful.

Dr Roane took a serious interest in my case. He took time to ask questions but more importantly, he listened intently. What a difference this visit made to me.

Dr. Roane treated me for 20 years for Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus SLE, Fibromyalgia, and Sjögren's Syndrome, before transferring to Florida. I found him to be a very caring Doctor who listened and cared about his patients; I valued him as a Physician. Doctors like him are hard to find these days.

Dr. Roane was very good to me. He was patient with my frustration with both fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. He worked until we could control pain and improve my symptoms and quality of life.

Said that that fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue isn't real. Not only that, he acted like an arrogant jerk. No thanks. I'd rather be sick.

I have been going to Dr. Roane for almost 16 years. He has keep me mobile and almost pain-free for this whole time. He listens and works to come up with a treatment plan that is effective and we are both comfortable with.

I have been with Dr. Roane for over 10 years. When I first saw him I could no longer play the guitar I had played for 30 years, nor could I comfortably stand on my own 2 feet. I was concerned I would no longer be able to provide for my family. He assured me he could help me out, and indeed he has. I was probably one of the first to use Humira. I quickly got much better and was back to doing what I had always done, including hiking and attempting to play some music on the guitar. I thanked him several times for essentially giving me my life as I knew it back at the time. Besides being a good Doctor, he is a heck of a photographer.
