Dr. Edward Eizo Okimoto, MD

I have been seeing Dr Okimoto for 3 yrs now and he is the best pcp I ever had. I am very confused seeing all these other negative reviews. I never had a problem setting up an appointment to see Dr Okimoto, The longest I waited to see him was 20 mins, he is very friendly and thorough and listens to my concerns. Dr Okimoto was highly recommended by a nurse. I am very pleased and would recommend anyone to see him.

I have been a patient of Dr. Okimoto for the better part of 15 years. I consider him to be very competent physician. He has always addressed my needs and has always done followups. The office staff is very considerate and always ready to help in any needs I have.

Dr. Okimoto is one of the better Doctors I have had. The staff is friendly and he is thorough. Listened to my concerns and explained my options.

Overall, not a good experience. My previous PCP retired from individual practice on short notice. Dr Okimoto was the only Internist within 10 miles of my home, so I tried him despite the poor reviews. Took 7 weeks to get a first appointment! Had severe back problems 3 days before the appointment and staff refused to let me see him and told me to go to the emergency room! When I got in to see him, he ignored the problem. I had to go back a few weeks later as the back problem became more severe. He diagnosed sciatica without any tests and went along with the insurance company's "suggestion" that I get physical therapy. Next visit I asked that maintenance meds be changed to 90 day prescriptions with 3 90 day refills because his office demanded 48-72 hours notice for ordering refills. Several refills since then have been filled as one month supply with no refills. Office staff refused to inform the doctor of the mistake and said it was because I hadn't been in to see him recently (only 6… times in previous 8 months)! Then they told me it was because I didn't have a next visit scheduled (which I proved I did). Then it was because they had no record that I was taking the drugs in question despite the fact they both always appear on the post-visit sheet in the "Continue Taking" section. Next visit was for a flare of acute bronchitis from my chronic bronchitis, he wasn't there and the family care doctor refused to provide anti-biotics despite my telling her that the flare would become pneumonia without the anti-biotics. Three days later I went back and was diagnosed with pneumonia and got a prescription for anti-biotics. As for the back, he finally listened to me 7 months after I first reported symptoms and agreed to send me to a Physiatrist I had seen in 2010 ... his support is VERY different from the poor treatment I received from Dr Okimoto. In sum, he doesn't listen, he's too rushed, he depends on his staff to provide the prescriptions and follow-up instructions and doesn't follow up for questions, the staff is rude and there is no follow-up from the office even where there has been a serious ailment. I'm looking for a new doctor after only 8 months (I had my previous PCP for 15 years from when I arrived on island to his retirement). Save yourself the frustration ... look elsewhere.

Wasn't too pleased with Dr. Okimoto. Didn't feel as if he actually cared about me as his patient. His MA's were slightly inexperienced.

Office staff is not very friendly. No courtesy reminder for appt and will be charged ($65 I think) if missed. Some wait times is an hour long! Even when you arrive early. Copay due same day but I've been billed (again) from outside company resulting in headache to clear situation. Nurses friendly.Dr always seems rushed and doesn't listen attentively. Uses lowest form of med to treat (which is fine) and says to follow up if symptoms continue. When they do continue, rather than prescribe stronger med he will require another visit which means another copay! You just saw me a few days ago!!! We need better doctors on the west side. Ones that are prompt, attentive, and smart. I advise against Dr. Okimoto.

I asked for some very specific medicine for acner i had picked up at longs before, however he gave me something else! He is impersonal, and has his nurses come give you printouts of the meds he prescribed...never discussed dosing, answered any questions, ext. If you just need penicillin and you know exactly he may help. I asked him to perform some type of tests to see what kind of systemic infection i have, but did he? No. Walked out of the room and was never seen again. Asked to talk to him as i felt he did not listen to my concerns, and was told he was with another patient and the nurse would call me tomorrow. He sure does make a lot of money to be so incompetent.. Maybe thats what does it.

I would not tell a friend - I would like to change - they made me feel like I didnt have any other options because this clinic is short staffed. He made me fee like he was just going through the motions & even smirked when I spoke of concerns I had as if I wasnt telling the truth or because Im overweight, its obvious I have issues. There was NO follow-up. NO personal explanations for anything, just pamphlets/flyers, so if I have any questions, who do I ask. Should I read flyers & make my OWN assumptions? I am not a Dr so that wouldnt be a good idea! leaves me feeling like whats the point & what do they get paid for?.... Finally, I mentioned that I have asthma & told him what I take @ last clinic & that I am out of meds (4got to mention I am a new patient to queens/him) & he didnt even prescribe me new meds so NOW, I have to take off work & make new appt. for something I already was IN for already-what a waste of time! if he paid more attention the 1st 2times I was there, maybe he… wouldnt have forgot
