Dr. Edwin Neal Austin, MD

I would not recommend Dr Austin to a Breast Cancer Patient. I hope No cancer survive should have this experience. His 'assistant' Mary was unprofessional, rude, and no help. Poor communication, listening. There was no empathy, respect, or concern for my health or well being, at a vulnerable, traumatic time. No consideration to pre existing conditions. He assured me he could do an implant on a radiated masectomy breast with Lymphedema, I believed him as a professional. It was not possible, an ugly failure/experience. After the Surgery, he would not Answer my questions, and got angry . The internal infected incision burst, I went to ER, had him remove implant. I asked for a no reconstruction closure, yet I was left with skin flaps, plus painful skin adhesions.

Dr Austin completed my breast reconstruction after I had a mastectomy due to breast cancer. Through out my entire experience, Dr Austin was very kind, compassionate and always took the time to answer my questions and thoroughly explain my options. The results of the reconstruction were far more than what I could have hoped for and I am so pleased with the results. I cannot say enough good things about the care I received from Dr Austin and have highly recommended his services to friends and family.

I saw Dr. Austin after doing meticulous research and him being recommended by my primary care physician because I was having severe back, neck and shoulder issues caused by large breasts that were out of proportion to the rest of my body. I was impressed immediately by his demeanor. He started by introducing himself and walking me through a typical breast reduction procedure. I had a list of 52 questions and he answered all but 2 before he was done. He took his time and explained everything in detail, even drawing a diagram. He examined me and told me he did not foresee any issues getting insurance approval and he was right. I scheduled the surgery.In my pre-op appt, he asked me about anxiety and motion-sickness. I had a scheduled operation 2 years ago and the staff and doctor were not at all concerned about by comfort levels. Dr. Austin suggested that he see me and mark me first on the morning of the operation, then I could be given something for anxiety. He suggested a scopolamine… patch before the surgery so that any nausea would be lessened. He took into account that I had been on opiate pain killers for some time and adjusted the prescription to make sure I would be comfortable post-op. He also wrote a prescription for suppositories for nausea - this is the first doctor that has taken vomitting into account when prescribing anti-nausea medications.The surgery went as planned. The pain was minimal, and nearly nonexistent with the rx. I did not have an issue with nausea following my operation. When the bandages and drainage tubes were removed, I was in awe of the results. My breasts are now perfectly proportionate to my body. I'm less than 3 weeks post-op and the scarring is already much less than I would have imagined. After my appt to have the drainage tubes removed, Dr. Austin scheduled an appt for the handling of any scarring/scar tissue. The fact that he not only has the compassion to see me more than required to ensure my healing process goes well, but advised it outright speaks volumes. I would recommend him in a heartbeat. My quality of life is already so much higher than it was.

I underwent breast augmentation with Dr. Austin and am extremely pleased with not only the outcome but both the doctor and the staff. Dr. Austin is very caring and I always felt like he had time for me. I couldn't be more pleased with the experience! I have recommended him to everyone I know.

When dealing with cosmetic surgery, courtesy is not as important skill. I am so depressed, he ruined my life. He kept saying how conservative his approach was but he hacked and gouged at my body and removed so much fat and in places we had not discussed. My clothes are so uncomfortable, he created such a weird and horrible shape to my body. There are deep grooves, and sink holes all over my body. He butchered me.

I am an RN in Salem. I have been an RN for 15 years and know many doctors and nurses, Including surgical nurses. I had (3) ten pound babies and wanted a tummy tuck. So I started my inquires, first with the surgical nurses. One name kept coming upDr. Austin. I personally spoke to a Social Worker that had a tummy tuck by Dr. Austin, she said it was a great experience and she would definitely recommend him to anyone needing the service. I also spoke to another woman that had a tummy tuck and breast augmentation by Dr. Austin. Again the service and outcome was phenomenal. So I did it! I am now 3 weeks post op and the experience and outcome exceeded my expectations. During the pre-op visits I had lots of questions which Dr. Austin answered patiently. He explained what he felt my outcome would be. Dr. Austin was very kind and courteous at each visit, personally helping me on and off the exam table. He was meticulous in his measurements and surgery. About 10 days post op I was… worried about some swelling. I called the office and his staff worked me in 15 minutes! Unheard of! I did not wait in the waiting room, but in a comfortable exam chair in a room. They were kind courteous and empathetic to my situation. As a nurse in this community, I would proudly recommend him to anyone. As far as the comments from Sad in Salem on this page.You should be greatful that there are still Physicians in this day and age that refuse to do procedures that may not turn out well just to take your money. He saved you from pain, suffering, a large bill and broken promises.. Frankly I find that refreshingPlease add Ethical to his list of strong suits!!!!!

Dr. Austin did a wonderful job during and following the surgery. The fact that he doesn't act like a typical doctor but spends time and explains all areas of your care so you know exactly what to expect. Everything that he said would happen has taken place just as he said. He is very knwoledgeable and easy to talk to. If I have questions outside of doctor visits I can call and get answers immediately. Dr. Austin is a very caring and competent doctor and man. He was not only my husband's doctor but made us feel like he's carring for both of us. Thanks Dr. Austin
