Dr. Edwin V Wortham V, MD

After reading a few reviews I decided to take my daughter who has autism to Dr. Wortham . I explained to him my concerns that my daughter is autistic and so she will probably be challenging. My daughter does not respond well in a new environment, she vomited and was just crying . Dr Wortham and his assistant was most concern about the vomit on the ground in his office than anything else. He even ask me to clean it up. Our examination was over in less than 5 minutes. I am writing this review because now I need to get a second opinion for my daughter because I received a letter saying she has some vision challenges in school. While Dr. Wortham said there was absolutely nothing wrong with her sight . He may be good with regular kids but do not recommend him for autistic kids at all. I really was offended by his lack of care

My child has Down Syndrome and multiple vision issues. We went to Dr. Wortham because I wanted a second opinion. He diagnosed issues the 1st doctor had not addressed. After Strabismus surgery, my child could see!

I took my daughter to see Dr. Wortham for a second opinion. The first ophthalmologist we saw was rushed, didn't explain things well and contradicted themselves when I asked questions. My experience with Dr. Wortham and his staff was the complete opposite of the first doctor. From the second we walked in the office, I felt welcomed and important. Every staff member we met was nice and knowledgeable. My daughter loved the toys and books in the waiting room (though she didn't get to play very long since we were only in the waiting room a few minutes). Dr. Wortham's assistant conducted the preliminary tests better than any optometrist or ophthalmologist we have seen. Dr. Wortham was AWESOME. He took the time to explain everything. He made a plan and made me feel comfortable as to why it was the best. My daughter felt so comfortable while we were there. It is obvious that they all love their jobs and helping children.

Wortham admittedly seems pleasant, but he' s an incompetent idiot who, as the last reviewer noted, conducts no adequate tests. Following strabismus surgery, he prescribed new glasses with half of a prism removed from each lens (thus from total 3 to total 2) simply to see how it would work, not because he spent time collecting evidence to see what prism my eyes needed. He also claimed he was strengthening the bifocal but didn't (as it was the same as it had been in my last prescription). When I returned to say I saw little to no improvement from where I'd been prior to surgery, he wrote another prescription for reading glasses, which also proved inadequate. I found another doctor whose competent surgery has been magnificent. Avoid Wortham like the plague. He should not be in practice.

Wortham has a pleasant enough manner that I'm sure helps to calm hysterical parents with fears about their children's misaligned eyes, but he explains as little as he can, conducts NO tests whatsoever in his office other than watching patients' eyes with his own, and told me his surgery was successful and that I should leave him alone when I returned complaining that I saw no improvement following it. I can't believe I allowed that man to perform surgery on me. I found another doctor, who diagnosed me with accommodative esotropia, and said there was another surgical option. This surgery seems successful. I won't be returning to Wortham.

His bedside manner is the worst. He deal with children but don't know how to talk to them. I wa4 I was upset because he seemed rushed, and I didn't like the way he asked my son to do things. My son is two years old he need you to talk to him like he's a child.
