Dr. Elaine Wong, MD

Our mom has been under the care of Dr. Wong for a long time for her diabetes issue. Earlier this year I started to get involved in my mom's care. When I reviewed Dr. Wong's treatment instructions for my mom, it was unbelievable how complicated it was. I showed it to my mom's PCP who said that the treatment plan was way too complicated for any patient to follow. Then when my mom's blood sugar levels remained high, Dr. Wong continued to increase her dose of injectable insulin to an "insane" level for a woman in my mom's small statue (my mom was under 100 pounds, and Dr. Wong prescribed 4 injections a day up to 500 units, and 2 injections of Toujeo up to 200 units.) When my mom was hospitalized, the hospital's nurses could not believe this extreme high dose. Then, with the help of a nurse sent by the PCP, I discovered that my mom was not injecting correctly and none of the insulin has reached her body; this finally explained why her BS remained uncontrollably high despite the… increasing insulin dose. Worse yet, had mom injected correctly, she probably would have died from hypoglycema for injecting such high dose into her body. After this discovery, Dr. Wong stopped my mom's injections immediately. Currently mom is only taking oral insulin pills once a day, and her blood sugar is completely under control. I cannot believe all the suffering my mom endured over the years, under the care of Dr. Wong, for injecting six shots a day...she was practically a "prisoner"of Dr. Wong's treatment plan which was grossly incorrect and could have endangered her life given the high dose. My mom has spent tens of thousands of dollars purchasing the injectable insulin over the years which were totally not needed in hindsight. No one from Dr. Wong's medical staff, including herself, ever tried to ensure that an elderly patient like my mom was administering the insulin correctly or not. All they ever did was to increase the dose when her blood sugar was not under control. I consider this GROSS NEGLIGENCE on Dr. Wong's part.

This doctor will drop you without giving you any information as to why she has made her decision. I found this to be very unprofessional, disrespectful and ultimately immature from someone who has an M.D alongside their name. Do yourself a favor and see someone else, you'll thank me later. Her ability to "practice" medicine is limited to her tunnel vision only and what studies have shown. If you are a proactive patient who actually reads and studies up on your diagnosis, this will be looked upon as a threat to her. Patient beware!

I went to Dr. Wong after being discouraged by two other endocrinologists-- one with a 6-month waiting period and another who ordered a bunch of lab tests and then barely followed up to tell me what was wrong or what I should do and left me confused. By the time I went to go see Dr. Wong I was discouraged but I knew something wasn't right-- I gained a bunch of weight rapidly, I had thick facial hair (I'm female), and I could barely get out of bed. Dr. Wong very thoughtfully and thoroughly went through the process of sending me to get the right tests and ultrasound, and established that I had PCOS and hypothyroidism. I've been seeing her for years now and I'm still a very happy patient-- she's calm, patient, thorough, and always takes the time to answer all of my questions. She's also very encouraging about being preventative and living a healthy lifestyle without being condescending. She also emails back and forth with me when I have a question, and scheduling an appointment with her is… easier than with any other endocrinologist I've ever heard of. I highly recommend Dr. Wong!

Our experience with Dr. Wong has been terrific. Her support staff are excellent, we've never had a long wait, and she was able to work with a twenty-something year old type 1 diabetic young adult who was having terrible trouble controlling his blood sugar. She found his hypothyroid condition, and then also found that he was very VERY low in vit D, and he is now very much better. Back in school, doing well, in good control. In short, she was always patient, never lost her calm manner even when he wasn't testing nearly enough, she completely helped us through a horrible rough patch.

Dr. Wong is the worst doctor I have ever seen. She is distant and only looks at the numbers, not the person you are. She never picked up a phone to call me regarding the countless test I was taking, she sent vague letters that just addressed the numbers in the results. She never even talked when I called the office to ask questions, just relay comments to admins, who then couldn't answer any follow up question I'd have. She sent me a letter stating she was sending me for an MRI, I got the call from the MRI company before I got her letter. She seemed shocked that upset me. And she sent me to an MRI office that was out of network with out her or the office telling me so I got stuck with a $2780 bill.I see Dr. Ammon now.
