Dr. Ellen R. Shammash, MD

I read some of the other comments with surprise. Dr Shammash has been my dr for 11 years and I have found her to be caring and proactive when it comes to my RA. She diagnosed it immediately and has continued to monitor me. She is always answering any emails I send her (via HealthPartners) and gets back to me usually within the same day, often calling me to talk. She diagnoses more issues than my other GPS. Prior to Covid, she would greet me with a hug and always ask after what’s happening on my life. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking someone who is knowledgeable and will go to bat for you if you needed her to.

This self-important doctor acted like I'd committed a crime by coming to see her. She did not address my complaints, but reacted with haughty disapproval. She has a cruelty and arrogance that do not belong in a doctor's behavior. She should be monitored by superiors and/or not allowed to harm other patients with her ignorance. A rheumatologist who does not think the weird symptoms of fibromyalgia are genuine? She should get out of medical practice.

I saw Dr. Shammash to discuss gout after having numerous outbreaks. She conducted a thorough examination and asked many questions before providing comprehensive and helpful advice. She answered all of my questions and was thoughtful and friendly at all times. Highly recommended!

She really didn't listen to my uncomplicated medical history. My symptoms have been the same for 7 years straight. Not helpful in any way with the diseases. I would have permanent cumulative damage from untreated autoimmune disease if I hadn't gone somewhere else.

I find Dr. Shammash to be very professional and very caring.

She judged me the moment she walked into the room, because I am overweight. She asked a lot of random questions that didn't seem relevant to arthritis. She never bothered to read my chart, telling me to see a podiatrist about my swollen foot- my chart clearly states I was referred to a rheumatologist by a podiatrist, about the arthritis in my foot, found on x-rays and an MRI. She suggested that for the foot pain and swelling I wear bigger shoes. It has been 2 days since my appointment/lab work/x-rays, and I have not heard any follow-up. This doctor lacks any kind of empathy or understanding, and is very judgmental. I will not schedule another appointment with her.

Condescending, smug and her diagnosis was not accurate. I carry a simple but lengthy medical history (only 2 conditions -- that's it), and it's important to look at the history to understand the conditions. Seemed to know very little about rheumatology (I'm a student). And not at all proactive in treating patients, she had the wait until permanent irrecoverable joint damage is there before treating.
