Dr. Eric Paraan Flores

Saved my husbands life.

Dr. Flores seems to be an excellent surgeon with excellent skills. He and the neurosurgical ICU at St. Luke's Hospital (Plaza location) in Kansas City saved my father's life. My father was stable and was doing great. Then he was moved out of ICU and his care and follow-up was sorely lacking. Dr. Flores' inability to communicate clearly, lack of follow-up, and seeming indifference, combined with too few nurses with too many patients on the regular floors, led to my father's death, in my opinion. Surgery and the ICU staff kept my father alive for almost a month. He was stable and we were told would be released, to find a rehab. facility. Then he was moved to a regular floor. I went with family to research rehab. facilities, missed a day at the hospital, went back a day later to be told my father would die. Two days out of ICU and an infection took over his lungs. One had started weeks earlier in ICU, but great care had gotten rid of the infection within days. Weeks later,… moved, and two days it comes back and can't be treated? Once he left ICU, he didn't get breathing treatments, he didn't get moved out of bed, he didn't get physical therapy, and we didn't know enough to demand better care. If it wouldn't hurt my mother more, I would have filed a complaint or done something. Then it took my mother almost 3 months to get a death certificate; Dr. Flores nor any other doctor affiliated with St. Luke's would sign the death certificate. The county coroner had to research the case and sign the death certificate. If Dr. Flores and other drs. did everything correctly, why would no one sign the death certificate? Perhaps no one would take responsibility because they all knew my father shouldn't have died.
