Dr. Eric Jonasch, MD

Dr. Jonasch gave my mom 2 options. Surgery or immunotherapy. He pushed for immunotherapy without surgery. He told us that may afford her the highest chance of long term cure. We trusted him and went with the option he thought was best. Her kidney tumor doubled in size during immunotherapy treatments. When I called to let them know she was in a lot of pain. They said the only thing they can do is to refer her to palliative. She suffered terribly. If you’re a candidate for surgery, go with the surgery. They don’t tell you how low the response rate is with treatments. Also, we only saw him in person one time. All her visits with him were on the phone even if she was there at MDAnderson. I believe if she would have had surgery, she would still be here. And I also believe that he knew that too.

Renal cell carcinoma stage 4. No hope. Five years and counting I would not have thanks to Dr Jonasch. Novel treatment at time. He cares, he is the best. Wish other doctors were as good.

Dr Jonasch may be one of the top GU Oncologist in the world let alone the USA. I rated him 5 stars for all but one category "bedside manner"., and the 4 stars may be a gift. But that is not what you go to an oncologist for "to hold your hand"! You go to survive and beat the cancer. Together with his expertise and the POWER of MD Anderson to make things happen, I am still fighting and I've beat the odds so far! We have had some set backs but I still feel I am with the right oncologist at the right Cancer Center to beat what statistically should be almost impossible!
