Arrogant and lazy

Continued to prescribe medicine despite the fact that my therapist noted that I was taking the pills with alcohol. There was no discussion about beginning the weaning process or any reduction in meds prescribed. I only began weaning from the drugs when I realized they were a problem and contacted him to begin the process.

Pill-pushing, easy to access and manipulate for unneeded prescription meds. Assessment is superficial.

We saw Dr. Millman for about 3 months. He spend 1 month "evaluating" our child and then presented his diagnosis (which turned out to be very wrong) and then two months in therapeutic sessions. During his "evaluation" he reported using no standardized assessments or measures, he could not clearly tell us what he did to assess our child during those four visits, he was not clear on what lead him to make the diagnosis, and he did not provide any report or anything in writing (for that matter). His therapy sessions seemed ineffective for our child, and he did not seem to tailor his sessions for our child based upon our feedback. He also gave little to no sound advise to deal with issues in the home, school and community. His practices (i.e. methodologies) seemed a bit antiquated, and he did not include parents or family members in during his sessions (we found this odd, especially after seeing quite a few other professionals since then). He is a very pleasant person, although be it… guarded, he was sympathetic, although it was clear that he did not fully grasp the gravity of the situation for the first two months even though it was clearly presented from multiple sources. He did eventually guide us to the correct resources, it served to be a relatively lengthy and costly delay (both emotionally and financially). I know that people regard Dr. Millman highly, we just wish he had listened more closely, was more transparent and collaborative.

For a child, adolescent. or adult Dr. Millman exceeds all expectations. He is eminently accessible and helpful. Our experience includes working with our child,our adolescent, us as parents, as ourselves, and as caregivers for our elders, one of whom developed Alzheimer's. He was recommended by friends who are psychiatric social workers as simply 'the best there is'-- and we say the same.
