Procedure: Hernia, (Inguinal): Initial office visit they had me wait about 2 1/2 hours past appointment time. Neither Doctor nor staff advised me why, just let me wait. When I asked doctor what he would charge for a normal non-complicated standard hernia procedure, he said he did not know, he does not pay attention to this, he lets his staff do the billing. He did not offer to find out for me, even after he being asked again. Bill for office visit: $345; he agreed with Medicare to receive $224. Do not know what he would ask for a non-insured person. A week latter, procedure at Surgery Center of Rockville (of which he is part owner) was reasonably on time. Staff were very nice. Operation took about 1 hour. -----the Surgery Center charged $13,949. Seems high. Research on-line shows a national average fee Medicare will pay a surgical center for this, uncomplicated, procedure, is: $1,957. The Maryland metropolitan area is slightly higher. Dr. Hanowell's Surgical… Center of Rockville agreed to accept from Medicare $1,989. This is 1/7th his charge. Again, the question may be asked: What would be the cost to a person who did not have insurance? This review form recognizes the online site location URL for the fees for many procedures as "profanity". Sorry. Have not yet received his, physician, charge; nor the Anesthesiologist 's charge. Result of operation seems good. Follow-up visit he let me wait at least 1 hour. No Reason by doctor or staff. Just left sitting. Another question here is: Does he care about the patient's time and the other things the patient must do? Would highly recommend not using him nor recommend him. There are plenty of other very good doctors in the area.

The office staff is a nightmare. I waited two hours for my appointment and. When I called the office to check out a troublesome stomach symptom...the lady laughed because I said the word diarrhea . The doctor seemed well trained but lacked a bedside manner. I told him right after the surgery that i was in extreme pain. He smile and said that" it was supposed to hurt as you have had surgery"

Dr H was fantastic. He made me feel safe and positive. Such a fantastic doctor I would recommend to absolutely any of my friends. Thank You Dr H!

Dr. Hanowell's staff is friendly and efficient. I chose Dr. H after having first called an office where the staff was rude and abrupt.When I met Dr H, I could not believe how much time he spent explaining my procedure to me, discussing the risks, and really making ME a part of the decision-making team. He is, honestly and truly, one of THE nicest people I have ever met in my life. He really cares about me, my pain, discomfort, fears and long term needs. I could not be happier to have found Dr H and to have chosen him to be the one to operate on me.
