Dr. Esther Eisenberg

It's hard to get an appointment time to fit your schedule because she teaches and only devotes partial time to practice. She is odd and awkward personally but I think that most extremely intelligent people are so it just comes with it. After years of trying she helped me get pregnant in less than 6 months. My daughter is now nearly two!

If this review can save someone else from wasting their time with Dr. Eisenberg it's worth my time to write. She really had no idea about my case even after I had seen her 4 times to establish a plan for my infertility. She ordered tests that were not appropriate, labs that were out of synch, and didn't have answers to very basic questions. There are good fertility specialists out there, so please keep looking. We started over with another clinic which was costly, but so worth it. We are now expecting our first child with the great help of another clinic. Please don't waste your time with Eisenberg.

I first saw her over 4 yrs ago and she took labs and a hefty fee for herself, never followed up with me and never did anything for me. I then changed to another Dr. in the practice he was not the greatest but he at least tried different things. He just suddenly left the practice and left his patients in Dr. Eisenbergs care. I started my new cycle and e-mailed the office to have my prescriptions filled for my new cycle. she refused to continue my treatment saying that it wasnt working even though it was actually working very well. She then had the nurse send me a nasty email saying that I needed to find another Dr. She basically left me high and dry as we all know that the upfront fees for a new RE are very expensive and that is sometimes takes months to get an appt. From my understanding she is also leaving the practice and moving up north somewhere. I feel sorry for her future new patients. If you are considering seeing this DR. please go elsewhere you will be wasting your time. I… have spoken with several of her other patients while in the waiting room and not one person has had anything good to say about her, they like me continued to see her because financially they were stuck with her. She is a bitter old troll and I would not doubt that she doesnt secretly get off by causing women to loose hope. And the picture of her on here is about 40 yrs ago. She looks nothing like it. My wife and I have been trying to conceive, and she was reffered to this doctor as a specialist. My wife is probably 20 lbs overweight (like most people are today) and she was very coldly told this was the sole reason we are unable to conceive. Seriously? Another doctor had done bloodwork and found low progesterone levels, yet Dr. Eisenberg refused to focus on anything other than my wife's weight. She provided a pamphlet on the South Beach diet and sent us on our way. Now yes, being in perfectly fit shape is ideal for conceiving and overall health...I get that. But realistically, being a few pounds overweight has absolutely nothing to do with our situation. This Dr. did nothing productive, and charged us a consultation fee just to insult my wife, hurt her feelings, and push her to tears. This is already an emotional time for her, she doesn't need to be insulted and ridiculed right now. I would recommend staying away from this witch.

Overall this doctor is straight forward and does not beat around the bush. I like this method, but I can see why other patients may not. She is extremely intelligent and knows her stuff. I have been under her care now for 4 months and will continue to do so. I would rather have an experienced and knowledgeable doctor than one that is worried about my feelings. On the other hand, she only sees patients two days a week. Her schedule is very tight and it can be hard to a get an appointment when you need one. The time spent at beside is quite small but she does answer all my questions. She hasn't followed up after any appointments. If I need something I call her nurse.

This MD ordered tests that were not needed and ineffective. On one occasion she ordered an US, and when my husband asked what it would/could show, she stated "I guess nothing at this stage in your cycle." Needless to say we did not walk down the hall and pay for the test. She also ordered a fasting blood glucose levels and immediately sent the lab techs in to draw my blood. It was 1:00 in the afternoon and I had just ate so the test results were skewed and ineffective. My husband could not believe how bad the appointment was and transitioned my care to an outside hospital. We thought we could trust Vanderbilt's medical team and found we absolutely could not. After my experience, I've heard from many other young women who would not even consider going to Vanderbilt University Hospital for endocrinology/fertility due to such as long history of poor care.

Dr. Eisenberg apparently has a reputation (or at least USED to have a reputation) of a not-so-great bedside manner. I haven't really found this to be the case, however I can see how she can seem that way to others. She is a very scientific thinker, and I think because of that, sometimes the way she puts things are more scientific than touchy-feely. However, I would much rather have a doctor who knows what she's talking about (and this woman KNOWS HER STUFF) than one who just wants to hold my hand. She has run the gammut of tests on me, and is suggestive of new routes to take to overcome my infertility. She is the Division Director of Reproductive Endocrinology at Vandy, and I don't think they would give her the job if she didn't know what she was doing. Bottom line - I trust her, and that's really the most important thing to me in a doctor.

Staff is wonderful, Dr E, is sorely lacking in MANY areas. After MANY months of the same ol same ol, she basically came up with "unexplained infertility" (fair enough I guess seeing as my husband tested fine) and that I was too fat to ovulate properly. (40-50 lbs too fat) Welllll...I'm now well below that and still not ovulating so now what?? I'm getting ready to start again and am not going to torture myself with more visits to this mean little troll and do yourself a favor and don't either. Her waiting room was full of women 60-80 lbs fatter than me that were pregnant sooo what of that? Anyhoo, she's mean and didn't seem to know squat.

I have been going to Dr. Eisenberg now for about 6 months for IUI. At first, I was told not to use this Dr because of issues with bedside manner, not getting along with others, etc. I have not experienced this at all with her. I feel that she has provided an excellent level of care and her knowledge is great! I feel that it's important to have realistic expectations with this type of procedure and understand the potential outcomes and timeframe for success. I would highly recommend Dr. Eisenberg.

Vandy hospital is great, this doctor is very intellegent and knows her stuff!!!
