Dr. James L. Cosgrove, MD, MD

I have seen Dr. Cosgrove for over 5 years & he has enabled me to continue limited walking after an unsuccessful hip surgery with resulting nerve damage by another physician elsewhere. He has always been kind, compassionate, professional & knowledgeable. He has treated me for severe arthritis & fibromyalgia. I have had hip & knee injections from him & his nurse practioner which have helped me. I have refered other friends from the therapy pool where I exercise daily & they have all had reduced pain although other doctors could not help them. He receives an enthusiastic recommendation from me!

I will simply say this I have been treating with a team of specialists Doctors and therapists within the UPMC system for over 4 years now and this individual in a fifteen minute face to face appointment without doing a thorough evaluation wrote an IME saying that those UPMC Specialists apparently did not know what they were talking about and sided with the insurance company to stop all treatments. The previous IME I had (which was done by a different Dr. just one year prior lasted for over 90 minutes and was very in depth and highly in favor of more treatments and was even able to valuable suggestions of which type and also potential benefiting medications. This guy is not even in the same league he will do whatever the insurance company tells him to do.

My family member saw this insensitive, cold, angry “doctor”. When a patient is trying to explain the circumstances that brought him into the office: this maniac doctor starts yelling “i don’t wanna hear about another doctor” ( he actually threaten to leave the exam room); such a violent temper in front of elderly sick patient and spouse (disgusting behavior) . He shouldn’t be allowed to treat a plant; a very nasty disposition. The insurance company should investigate him. This was not an IME exam, not a patient seeking pain medication ; just someone looking for options for a painful relentless illness.

So embarrassed for this slave of Satan when his nonsensical report to insurance carrier denied full thickness rotator cuff tear that was diagnosed by two hospital radiologists in eastern and western Pa, then confirmed by leading upper extremity board certified orthopedic surgeon in Wexford Pa. I was actually sent to this physiatrist for IME to address neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome diagnosed and surgically treated by one of the country’s leading vascular surgeons at Johns Hopkins. Cosgrove denied all, as he is paid to do. Vindication came a month later when both the liability and underinsured motorist insurance carriers wrote checks for their full limits. I guess the question is why any carrier still uses this paid puppet?

I was sent here for an IME at the request of my workers comp adjuster who denied me the medical care that I so needed from falling off my dump truck do to a faulty handle turns out other trucks of the same year make and model broke in the same spot after mine did I was diagnosed with a concussion 5 dislocated and protruding disc's and vertebrates blurriness in my left eye left arm and hand has no feeling hip contusion shoulder injury all as a result of the Fall I brought in MRI results along with other results from the hospital and my PCP dr. Cosgrove states he gave me Romberg test another test while in reality all he did was come in to the room to appease and amuse me trust me people he will deny U of the medical attention you need through your workers comp at any cost he is definitely for the insurance companies not for the patient I'm just in shock that a single doctor could be so unethical and dishonest at the expense of a patient who legitimately needed help as far as I'm… concerned you will be denied any type of legitimate injuries that you may have according to mr. Cosgrove he claims in his ime report that sometimes I walk in stiff-legged and slow and it other times I walk in Normal with normal arm swing meanwhile I only went to his office one time this guy is a true snake who is for the insurance companies only please stay away

The doctor prescribed me my pain medication although my other doctor prescribed my medication every 4hr. And dr. Coagrove ordered it every 8 hr.the medication only works for 4 hr. But 4 hours of pain relief is better than no pain relief so I can’t complain.

I have gone to Dr. Cosgrove for 2 years. He has done wonders for my knee. My last visit for my back after 2 years is I am worst off now then when I started. He put me on tramadol and became addicted to it. Call him for assistance he referred me to my family doctor. They said he put you on it he needs to take cars of it. Took me 30 days on my own and I am free of the medicine. You will go and see him, we tried lotion, shots, etc.... no pain medicine at all which is fine, but after 2 years, come back and see me in 4 weeks, he received a lot of money my last visit was put ice on your back, take Tylenol come back and see me in 4 weeks. I have a lot of pain when I sit and he did nothing for it at all. I received shots in lower back and have more pain now then when I started. Would not advise using him.

very disappointed thinking as a prior professional that I felt I would get a fair medical review for work comp. I was wrong. insurance company sent me to him after cancelling a prior ime scheduled with anpother provider in pa. This man didn't care of anything I had to say. I told him I approved the nurse case worker to enter room for validation of my current problems> he refused to allow her in after I consented. I had 3 prior imes and never had the problems I am facing now with my compensation : he is trying to stop my medical caRE care I truly deserve after many surgeries and continued medical issues at hand that have been over 20 years after extensive surgery in spine and continued deteruioration of health conditions and cant hardly walk or stand :: I ask for him to order additional testing and he refused directly to order any after I ask the inusrer that it was indeed okay if he felt he could order and they approved if he would order them. I get a very bad report that was… absolutely shocking for his "opinion" I could go to work full time and discontinue all my meds been on for problems . His office denied me acces to my medical records even with consent since I didn't pay for them. Now comes the tougher part fighting with deserved medical care I was awarded in past: vs this crap of ongoing senseless cost of atty and hearings to fight this eval. be warned anyone seeing this man consult your attorney immediately. This is why comp costs are skyrocketing with never end battle of complex steps that need to gain a reputable eval of fairlness. I was just very disappointed to see how such medical ethics abused for financial gain : this is what makes comp issues so complex and exhausting. I just pray to god almighty that labor and industry and ethics departments follow these comments and follow up on my experiences. again this is a experienced that I had and want to share with others.

My PCP & surgeon gave me Dr Cosgroves name as a referral. As a physiatrist, I would have expected him to physically touch my back and neck to gain a sense of my issues and feel my spasms. This did. not occur. He ran through his list of questions, and I felt he formed a negative impression of me because I am not a physical person, do not clean, cook, garden or work outside.. He immediately prescribed a chronic medication which effects the nervous system without any explanation of adverse events or how the drug was to be administered. At the end of the visited I had a list of questions and I began to ask them, but prefessed it by asking if he knew a friend of mine. His comment was he did. It have time to talk personally with me because he has rooms full of patients to attend to. He abruptly left the room and left me sitting there with a list of questions and never returned. When I inquired I was advised he has. Over on to his other patients. Two days later I wnr to an amazing… physiatrist. Who felt my back and neck, was kind and caring and we went with injections in the effected area. What a worl,of difference. There cinnical evaluations were also very dissimilar. I would not return, nor recommend. Remember, you are the customer and have the right to another opinion.

His only option for me was to keep taking the medicine he prescribed which put me to sleep while I was driving. Thanks for the wonderful help. Will never see him again!!!!!!!!!!
