He had his nurse tie me down before the surgery. I was almost sleeping then I got agitated by what was done. Not a please experience at Tampa General Hospital

I would pay no attention to the whining miscreants in this thread posting negativity about Dr. Norman. Dr. James Norman is a world class endocrinologist and if I had to do it over again, there is no one I would rather have taking a scalpel to my throat than Dr. Norman. In May 2008 my calcium level was measured at 13.4. You read that correctly: 13.4. I was on death’s doorstep. Stroke, kidney failure, and heart attack were all waiting for me at the age of 44. Fortunately I had an internal medicine M.D. who was more interested in understanding why I was suffering from chronic migraines as well as a litany of other symptoms than simply prescribing Imitrex and Lisinopril as band-aids. Once she discovered my dangerously high calcium levels, I was admitted to emergency for IV treatments to dilute down the calcium levels. We then quickly researched endocrinologists who could solve the issue and discovered Dr. Norman and his patented technique. Upon contacting him, we discovered he had a 3… month waiting period for surgery—because he’s such an awful surgeon /sarc. After learning of my elevated calcium levels, he had me on his schedule within 10 days. I flew to Tampa from N. Calif and was under the knife 10hrs later. He successfully removed a tumorous, cancerous parathyroid gland that he estimated was 12-15yrs in the making. He sent me home with calcium tabs; followed up with my M.D. over the next month and I’ve been healthy ever since. No health issues whatsoever since May 2008. Between the internal medicine doctor and Dr. Norman, my life was saved. Bottom line is he is an AWESOME surgeon and going anywhere else is settling for second best. And if you’re going to have someone cutting into your throat, you do not want to settle for second best. Dr. Norman is among the best in the world, if not THE best. Trust your health to no one else.

You'd be better off going to other good surgeons who do the same procedure which is what I did for several reasons. First, Dr. Norman & the NPC makes you pay for the surgeon consult completely out-of-pocket $1750 instead of going through your insurance company. All other surgeons go through your insurance company, like they should, so I did NOT have to pay for ANY of the surgeon consults completely out of pocket. NPC makes you do all the running around to get out-of-pocket estimates, which I did not have to do with other surgeons I consulted with. NPC doesnt like you to ask questions. If you have a couple simple individual needs they dont want to deal with you. NPC charged me more than my insurance out-of-pocket max. NPC decided to cancel my surgery just 5 days before my surgery because I asked to have my two simple requests sorted out before I took the long expensive trip. They care more about the numbers they can boast about on their web site than they do about individual patients.… Total lack of empathy, professionalism, & concern for you as an individual...you're just part of an assembly line.

Thank you Dr. Carling and Dr.Norman for your work. I am one of the patients that is feeling better with each day by following your directions and allowing the body to adjust. I can’t thank you enough.

The best surgent

Dr Norman performed surgery on me that failed to help me. Dr Norman, his website, and his phone app all misdiagnosed me. Since then I found the right treatment, explained what happened to Dr Norman, and received no response. Recommending the right treatment in cases such as mine would result in less surgery and less profit. Hyperparathyroidism means that you have too much PTH, the hormone that regulates the amount of calcium in your blood. This can happen because of a tumor, which can be removed by surgery. Or it can happen because you lose too much calcium in your kidneys, which can be cured with a common medication. Some people, such as me, have healthy kidneys that lose too much calcium. Dr Norman denies this possibility and performs ineffective and unnecessary surgery. This is wrong.

Dr. Norman is a medical visionary. The Parathyroid.com site with associated apps for calicium, parathyroid and thyroid effectively both teach and foster patient safety. He clearly values excellence. Dr. Norman insured there was seamless teamwork at every step of my care at the Norman Parathyroid Center. As a retired nurse, I found Dr. Norman to be an engaging knowledgeable physician who fully deserves accolades. There are not enough good words to express my gratitude. Dr. Norman's work is life changing.

After a botched surgery in Memphis, my doctors told me I had hyperplasia and there was nothing more they could do for me. I did some research and found Dr. Norman who promised me he could help me. My Memphis surgeon removed a healthy gland and left the tumor in me after digging around for three hours leaving considerable scar tissue. Dr. Norman with his brilliant expertise removed the tumor without damaging my vocal chords. I am exstatic! Don’t go any place else for Parathyroid surgery. Dr. Norman and the Norman Parathyroid Center is the best place you can go. Positively outstanding care! I can’t say enough good things about this wonderful place.
