Excellent and positive experiences from before my hip replacements (both replaced 8 weeks apart) to where I am now (2 months post op - second hip replacement & 4 months post op from the first). Dr. Van Horne is kind and generous with his time, answering all your questions and encouraging you to follow his advice regarding exercises, personal care, and walking before and after surgery. I am already walking 5 miles and day totally pain free! His staff is great! Dr. Van Horne is the BEST!!!!!!!
I recently had two hip replacement surgeries by Dr. Van Horne. I've had major surgeries in the past and this is by far the best experience. There is virtually no wait time in his office and the staff are friendly and expedient. The Grants Pass Surgery Center facility and staff are great as well! I've had a fast recovery and can finally walk without pain for the first time in many years. Dr. Van Horne, aka Dr. Van Hugger is an excellent surgeon and genuinely nice guy!
I have only awesome things to say about Dr. James Robert Van Horne! He is the best orthopedic surgeon I have ever met. Yes, he makes you prepare befor ...
Dr Van Horne gave me my life back. He loves what he does and encourages his patients to help themselves by doing all of the prescribed exercises. At times it was very hard, but now almost 3 months later I am able to do things I haven't been able to do for the past three years. I could barely walk before my surgery and now You'd never know I had surgery. He loves what he does and this is one reason why he is such a great surgeon.I feel very lucky to have found him. I will always be thankful to Dr. Van Horne.
I visited Dr. Van Horne as a result of a failed rt. knee replacement from 5 1/2 years ago. after being told it is what it is I tried to make the best of it. But after taking three falls due to lack of mobility, I decided it was time for a second opinion. I was scheduled to see Dr. Van Horne in what I felt was an incredibly short period of time. First visit I was X-rayed given a course of exercises to follow to try and increase my flexion, I was measured at 70 degrees. No major change from this approach, so the decision was mine to make, no guarantees. I chose to go forward with surgery and hope for the best. Its been 8wks since the surgery and I am at 120 degrees and could not be happier. I guess the point to my story is no matter how minor or silly the pre surgical or the post surgical exercises seem there is a reason for them and if you go into the surgery strong you will no doubt come out strong. I was hoping for 90 degrees and here I am with 120, I can't thank Dr. Van Horne enough and all the staff at Paragon for giving me my life back.
Dr. Van Horne provides his patients everything they need for a successful outcome of their procedure. He came highly recommended to me and I ditto that.
Dr. Van Horne has replaced both of my hips and I am back to making stumps three months after surgery. Follow his physical therapy guidelines before and after surgery and you'll be back in the saddle again..Amazing... If I can do it so can you..
My husband had complete hip surgery. What a true miracle now a days. Had surgery at 4:30 p.m. and we went home at 10:30 a.m. The exercises that were required was worth every minute he completed them. 4 times a day 1 hour each time. also physical therapy weekly. All the walking 6 hours a week plus the exercising made the surgery easy and he was ready to get up and go. He had surgery on Monday and we went to Church on Sunday. We really like Dr. Van Horn great bed side manner and willing to take the time to answer any questions you may have. My husband did so well on the first hip he is having the second hip on 3 months later. Just follow the rules and you can do this also.
Dr. Vanhorne is the best! I highly recommend him for any hip replacement surgery
Dr. VAN hORNE IS VERY THROUGH AND HE GIVES YOU ALL THE INFORMATION IN WRITING THAT YOU NEED TO HAVE A SUCESSFUL SURGURY. I FOLLOWED ALL OF HIS SGGESTIONS FOR RECOVERY AND MY KNEE REPLACEMENT WAS A HUGE SUCCEESS. I AM HAVING MY OTHER KNEE DONE NOW AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SAME SUCCESS.
I had TKR of both knees in a four-month time period and had excellent care. Following Dr. Van Horne's very specific protocols, I had a great outcome. This is particularly telling in that I am usually the "poster child" for not eating right, not exercising and not taking good care of myself. I followed his orders and do truly have my life back.
Follow the pre-surgery & post-surgery exercise programs...they WORK! At 6 weeks after surgery I was on a 2 wk vacation which involved miles of walking everyday with absolutely no problems. Its so wonderful to be pain free. Thanks Doc...you're the BEST!
Dr. Van Horne has an excellent process of pre-physical therapy to get you prepared for a total hip replacement. I had my surgery at 1 pm and was headed home that same day by 7 pm. His PA, GREG STANKO, is just as courteous and kind as Dr. van Horne. It is most important to follow all of his directions and exercises as well as those of your physical therapist. Dr. Van Horne was just the BEST!
Best orthopedic physician in southern Oregon. Have had Dr. Van Horne replace both of my knees. His pre surgery exercise routine is very strict but an absolute must if you want a great outcome. He does the surgery and does an amazing job. If you follow his instructions and do the required exercises before and after surgery you will once again live an active pain free life.
I am eight weeks out from having my left knee replaced by Dr. Van Horne. I am scheduled to have my right knee replaced later this month. Everything about my experience with Paragon Ortho and Grants Pass Physical Therapy was great.
Total Joint Replacement was nothing that I thought I would ever be considering. I'm partial to the parts God gave me, but my worn out knee gave me no choice. Hind sight is 20/20 and I feel very fortunate to have had Dr. Van Horne for my total knee replacement surgery. I was recommended to him by another Orthopedic Surgeon who was unable to do my surgery in the time frame that I was looking for. I have been amazed at my recovery and the speed at which I have returned to my normal activities. The lack of any significant pain after surgery, was astonishing. Doing his recommended pre-op and post-op exercises, along with his surgical procedures, have made this a very good experience. A would recommend both Dr. Van Horne and his Total Joint Replacement process to anyone considering joint replacement.
2 hips replaced. 2 knees replaced at same time in 2001.
If you follow Dr. VanHorne's instructions and get yourself fit prior to surgery you're chance of a successful surgery and short recovery time is greatly improved.
Can we really be so luck to have a nationally respected surgeon in this area? My husband has 2 new knees and his father has a new hip. Follow the doctors exercise instructions and you will do well. Wonderful surgeon, wonderful office staff, wonderful surgical center. I would recommend him to anyone, and if I ever need orthopedic surgery I wouldn't go to anyone else.
I found that if you follow Dr Van Horne's instructions before and after the surgery the end results are more than great, he has an excellant staff and his bed side anners are more than what is looked for. My wife had a knee replacement 1 1/2 yrs before me and the difference in my results and her were tons of differnence due to the fact she used another doctor and he did not have the before and after care anything like Dr Van Horne's plan. So if you wnat it done right and the best for you and your health please use Dr Van Horne.
Before my left knee replacement surgery, Dr. Van Horn's staff gave me a large document detailing instructions on strengthen my legs before surgery, information about the surgery, and what to expect after surgery. I followed Dr. Van Horn's Knee Replacement Instructions very carefully and consistently. As a result, my recovery was remarkably fast! I did every exercise and stretched as encouraged in the detailed document. I needed a walker for only four days and never used a cane. Ten days after my knee replacement, not only was I off Oxycodone, but mowed my yard! Two weeks after surgery, I went to physical therapy and was shown specific knee exercises which I did without any problems, and exercised at a health club 5X/week. By day 12, I started walking my dogs two miles per day in addition to weight lifting exercises. Four weeks after surgery, I could easily straighten my leg and bend it back more than 120 degrees. Each week thereafter, I continued exercising more to regain my "normal" leg strength. All in all, Dr. James Van Horn did an outstanding job replacing my left knee, and the detailed document provided before surgery was the key to a quick and successful recovery.
He changed my life and I would recommend him and his entire staff. I tried to follow his directions with exercise as closely as possible and it went great.
I will just say listen to what they say, and read your paper work!! I could not believe that I had the hip replaced andwas walking the same day. At six weeks I mowed my yard faster and with no pain first time in over two years. Please do your exercises and you will rebound very fast. I have heart and lung problems but can not believe how fast I bounced back. You have the best Dr. so why not listen to his experance and do as you are told. He and his staff treat you like you are family.
From my first visit to my last, the staff and Dr. Van Horne was the best. I would list him as my first option for a total hip replacement. I was up and out the very same day!! Follow his instructions and do the exercises!!
Follow his recommendation for exercise both before and after surgery and recovery will be a lot quicker. Dr. Van Horne is an excellent surgeon. After total knee replacement, I was up and home the same day.
As an RN I knew I needed knee replacement. 7 years ago Dr Van Horn did a great job and I had no fears about this surgery on the opposite leg. Yes the first 3-4 weeks is painful, but, BUT I cannot stress enough that the exercises with PT before are crucial, and the homework after the surgery is absolutely crucial if anyone thinks they are going to ride a bike, play with the grand kids on the floor or even walk around your garden. The first month after surgery I cried while doing my exercises, but my stubbornness to get the new knee up to par as the one from 7 years ago was a primary to our little family. I got encouragement from my hubby, and the cat helped me a lot, and the parrot was amused. If you do not religiously and consistently spend several hours a day, (yes break it down into 15 minute increments and build up from there) your life will truly be ruined as you know it now. Now 2 months after the surgery I am no longer on the pain meds from the surgery, I walk around our property on the wonderful walking paths we have, I get down on the floor for ballet exercises, I can use my new elliptical, and have a winter goal of getting up to 30 to 45 minutes at a time 3 times a day ( this is because we are hoping for lots of rain,) otherwise I will keep dividing between walking and elliptical. What I am trying to tell you people who need this kind of surgery is no matter how much it pains you and how many tears you shed YOU HAVE TO DO THE WORK!!!! Dr. Van Horn says he only does 5% of the work and the rest us up to us, and he is right, so don't blame your doctors, look in the mirror and ask yourself if you really did your work....it has to be through out the day, but dont give up!!!
Dr. Van Horn has done two total hip replacements and one total knee replacement on me and I am very happy with the results. He is very thorough and strict about following up on all physical therapy and home exercises. He also takes extreme precautions in preventing infections and blood clots. My husband has also had a total knee replacement and a knee revision by Dr. Van Horn. We recommend him to our friends that are looking for an orthopedic surgeon. He is also interested in saving us money and points us in the direction of less expensive procedures. This saves us huge amounts in co-pays.
Dr. Vanhonre is one of the most caring doctors I have ever met. He is always looking for my best interest and never recommends something that is not needed. FIVE STAR DOCTOR
I love, love, love Dr Van Horne. He is my favorite doctor I have ever come across. He is an expert in the frontal anterior minimally invasive approach to hip replacement and trains other ortho surgeons on the procedure. He has done both my left hip and a revision of my right hip (done by another surgeon). He is so experienced at doing this surgery that I was wheeled into the OR and was being wheeled out to my car in 7 hrs. 7 hours people....that's amazing. It's like outpatient total hip replacement. The original surgery in 1999 had me in the hospital for 9 days. Dr Van Hornes expertise means you hospital bill is much lower also since you aren't staying for days. I was walking without a walker or came within 2 weeks
as the dr. had said start your exercises before surgery and it makes it a lot easier to go thru surgery and to be able to do them when you get home. it was a piece of cake with van horn and I had very little pain. ready to go in and have the other hip done
The man is so good, he is very busy and you may have to wait for an appointment but he is worth it.
Best orthopedic doctors in Rogue Valley. The staff are excellent. If you send messages through their portal, you get a response immediately. Another orthopedic clinic in Medford said I was too young for replacement. I am very active and had no quality of life for several years. Dr. Bents and Dr. Van Horne gave me my active life back.
Followed the Doctor's instructions prior to surgery--did all of the requested exercises recommended by Dr. Van Horne and his staff. Day of hip replacement surgery registered at hospital at 9 am and was discharged at about 4:30 pm the same day. This included registration, pre-op, operation, post-op recovery, transfer to hospital room, lunch and physical therapy with walking. Discharged to a family house across from the hospital. Drove home the next day--two hour drive. No pain, no pain medication was necessary. Pre-op instruction manual and follow-up information was integral in the recovery process. Post -op physical therapy and daily exercise aided in the continued recovery and total well-being. We are absolutely thrilled with the whole experience! We are prepared to schedule the replacement of the other hip next month.
Received the most courteous and prompt service I've ever had at a doctor visit. Went to a different doctor first who wasn't concerned about my pain. With the fist visit here they quickly started the process for hip replacement. They literally gave me my life back.
Dr. Van Horne performed my hip replacement surgery. It was a totally smooth process from start to finish. He has amassed a great team who all understand the process, are well versed in his expectations, are competent professionals, and are courteous and professional. I am pain free now and can walk unassisted. I highly recommend Dr. Van Horne.
I had a knee replacement done by Dr. VanHorne last year and am having the other one done in a couple of months. He is well qualified, well known and well respected as one of the best ortho docs in our area. My experience with him has been exceptional. He cares about his patients, is kind and allows all the time necessary for questions to be answered. He gives medical hand-out sheets that explain the procedure in detail from pre-op to post-op and will answer any questions that come up. I highly recommend him!
Dr. Van Horn replaced my right hip, after another doctor had replaced my left hip and botched it, causing me to have a condition known as 'Drop Foot'. I am so thankful to Dr. Van Horn because he did an excellent job and used the less evasive method. I was only in the hospital one day and walked out feeling great. I have had no further problems with my hip and I didn't even need to take a single pain pill, after being released from the hospital. If it were not for the left hip that the other doctor refused to do the less invasive surgery on and even ended up making my leg 2" longer, I would be able to do everything I did when I was younger. Dr. Van Horn is a very easy person to talk to and makes his patients feel like they are his only patient. I thank God for Dr. Van Horn and advise anyone needing a hip replacement to make the journey to Grants Pass and have the procedure done there.
