Dr. Joanna Chan is a Harvard- and Stanford-trained dermatologist and Mohs surgeon known for her exceptional skill, warmth, and patient-centered care. Born in Rangoon, Burma (Myanmar), and raised in Dallas, Texas, she developed a deep appreciation for kindness, excellence, and southern hospitality. She graduated valedictorian of her high school class of 1,100 students with a full International Baccalaureate diploma and was named a United States Presidential Scholar. She later graduated magna cum laude in biochemical sciences from Harvard College and earned her medical degree from Stanford Medical School, where she created the Medical Mandarin course and founded an organ donation education nonprofit.
Among the elite group of Mohs surgeons in the Los Angeles area, Dr. Chan completed a Mohs College-accredited fellowship at the California Skin Institute and is board-certified in Mohs Micrographic Surgery. With more than a decade of experience and over ten thousand Mohs procedures …performed, she provides expert treatment for skin cancer with a highly individualized approach, carefully considering each patient’s anatomy, lifestyle, and unique needs to achieve the best possible outcomes. Her advanced fellowship training included exposure to rare tumor pathology, difficult tumor locations, complex wound reconstruction, and collaboration with top oncologists to ensure comprehensive care. She also offers advanced cosmetic and reconstructive dermatology services, including lasers, injectables such as Botox, fillers, Radiesse, and Sculptra, and lifting procedures designed to create natural-looking results.
Dr. Chan returned home to Dallas to complete her dermatology residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center, then later moved her practice to Pasadena in 2018 to be closer to family. She now serves patients at Dynasty Dermatology, a highly respected practice she assumed management of in 2021. Fluent in Spanish, Fujian/Taiwanese, and Mandarin, she has a special interest in treating patients with skin of color and is deeply committed to delivering outstanding care with specialized attention to each patient’s needs. Outside of medicine, Dr. Chan is an accomplished musician and enjoys travel, karaoke, ballroom dancing, matchmaking, exploring restaurants, and spending time with her husband, Dr. William Lee, and their two sons.
