Dr. Joel Douglas Abbott, MD

I went to Dr. Abbott for a second opinion. It was a drastically different and better experience. He was so kind, thorough, helpful, and compassionate. I’m so thankful to be his patient.

I have been going to see Dr Abbott since 2007. He diagnosed me with RA. He has been a kind, caring and patient physician. He will take his time with each patient so you may have longer wait times to see him. I know I’m a difficult patient due to infections and sickness but he keeps trying to help me. I appreciate him and all he’s done to help me. His staff does need a dose of compassion for the patients. It would be nice if they put the patients needs over their own convenience.

I have been going to Dr. Abbott for many years. He diagnosed a form of arthritis I had never heard of. He is very knowledgeable and very caring. Wonderful bedside manner. His nurse is wonderful and also seems to care.

Dr. Abbott truly shows he cares about his patients. He listen and explains everything well. He spends time researching the best plan of care for my needs. I will continue to always see Dr. Abbott for as long as he's practicing in Alabama.

This is a practice that makes you feel that they are doing a huge favor for you to even see you. This is evident from the first phone call requesting an appointment through the lucky day you actually get to see a doctor. The rooms where you see the doctor are replete with signs about additional charges you will incur for such things as copies of your own file, FMLA papers, etc. If you call off hours you are warned that you will be charged if your call is not a true emergency. I see Dr Abbot and I think it must be easier to get an audience with the Pope. He is a knowledgeable doctor but he is curt, almost to the point of rudeness, and showing signs of burn-out. I have been a patient for several years and the quality of the practice and treatment has declined.

I tried to get an appointment and it was impossible. My doctor wanted me to see a rheumatologist and they wouldn't even schedule me. I honestly feel like giving up. I'm in so much pain and have no life. I don't want pain medication, I already have that. I just want someone to tell me what's wrong! They said they don't treat people with fibromyalgia. My neurologist thinks it's something more serious and I heard Dr Abbott was the physician to see. If I am diagnosed with something life threatening, I hope Dr. Abbott and his staff sleep well at night.

I have been trying for 2 months to get an appt. with Dr. Abbott. I was personally referred to this doctor and understand he is a great doctor. The office staff is IMPOSSIBLE to work with. They are rude, do not return phone calls,and cannot locate my records on multiple occasions. "We don't have your records". "I can 't find your records". Sad that a quality doctor has such pathetic staff.

I have seen dr abbot for years for my Behçet's and COULD NOT ask for a beer doctor. HE worries about things more than I do and is INCREDIBLY compassionate, kind and caring. Seriously, I have seen many many doctors over the years for my disease and no one has been better than dr abbot and his staff. Period.
