Dr. Joel Peter Mascaro, DO

Dr. Mascaro is an exceptional physician and I am so glad I found him. He treats the whole person, not just symptoms. I love his approach. He listens and hears my concerns. He explains things fully, so I can understand and supplied me with the knowledge I needed to aid my recovery. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Dr. Mascaro is an excellent physician who really cares about the whole patient. He gives referals when necessary to the best specialists.

In 2011 I went for several visits including a saliva, blood, and skin (allergy) tests. Iinitially I thought this guy was great. He saw me once every few weeks and seemed to care about me and spend time listening to my concerns, at least until things started to not go well with the supplements he prescribed to me. Dr. Joel Mascaro. prescribed Phase 1 supplements he sold me which directly caused severe health problems within 2 days of starting. There was no other change in my diet or lifestyle. When I returned to discuss my problems, he had no interest in finding out WHY I had immediate health problems from Phase 1 supplements but recommended cutting the dose in half. I had the same bad health reaction (slightly less intense as first time) after the 2nd (decreased) Phase 1 recommendation. Upon returning the Dr. couldn't get me out of the office quick enough (was he scared of a law suit?) and told me to skip Phase 1, then sold me over $100 in Phase 2 supplements. It took me over 4… months and visits to 3 other doctors to "fix" the problem doctor Mascaro and his supplements caused. During this time I happen to be applying for life insurance and have been denied for the rest of my life, because of this. Neuroscience tests measure markers of neurotrasmitters in the urine and claim that is a reflection of the action of these chemicals (serotonin, dopamine, acetylcholine, and a few others) in your brain, which is simply not true. Neurotransmitters are big molecules that dont freely pass between the body and the brain (unless there is a compromised blood brain barrier), so measurements taken outside the brain are not reflective of whats going on in the brain. End Result: Be wary of supplements by NeuroScience (which he prescribed). Reminds me of the fox guarding the hen house - doctor Mascaro profits from the NeuroScience supplements he sells (and it gets you in to his office often... more than any other doctor I know of, generating more revenue for him) - NeuroScience performs the screening and tests, and provides the results, AND recommends their own supplements. No third party objectivity (because there can't be, no one would recommend what they do) To make matters worse, when I saw Dr. Mascaro he had me do a fasting glucose test, which came out as borderline diabetic (or pre-diabetic). When he read the results to me he said that was a false positive and that the Diabetes Association puts out low numbers to be safe and for me not to worry about anything. 3 years later guess what? Now I'm Diabetic! In part because I listened to him and didn't improve my diet or exercise. Update 2014: If I had time in the day to write more than a Google review... I wish I could make it a point to find a medical authority that oversees this guy to formally have him investigated. To make matters worse, when I saw Dr. Mascaro he had me do a fasting glucose test, which came out as borderline diabetic (or pre-diabetic). Fast forward a few years later. Now I'm squarely prediabetic! In part because I listened to him and didn't improve my diet or exercise.
