Dr. John Alexander Thomas, MD

I am a 40 year old male, that had L5/S1 spondylolisthesis caused by a bi-lateral Pars fracture. The injury happen over 10 years ago and progressively got worse over time. The last couple years it was a big problem, with pain everyday and got to a point that something had to be done. So in late 2018 I decided to get an MRI. The results were pretty much was I expected, so I started to research neurosurgeons. I had narrowed down to a few choices, and Dr. Thomas’ name kept rising to the top. Simply look into him and you will see. Pay special attention to the fact that he is on the leading edge of new techniques, and also has an amazing blog “spinal (con)fusion” With the sole purpose of educating people on all kinds of spinal issue. It has been exactly a year since my surgery. I wanted to wait till I was fully recover before doing any kind of review. Let me first say this, I can not say enough good things about Dr.Thomas and his entire staff. They were amazing through the whole… process. From start to finish everyone was great. They all were very helpful, never rushed, and I always felt at ease. Any time I had a question they were there and spent as much time as I needed. One of the biggest thing that helped me through this was the Dr. Thomas and Jack Bagley spent a lot of time explaining the problem, the solution, and what to expect at every step along the way. This was a huge help post-op and through recovery. They were very honest with me and looking back, they were spot on. The day of surgery I was very stressed and, to be honest, scared. Dr. Thomas came to talk to me again before surgery, answered more question, gave me more detail on what everyone was going to be doing and helped me to be slightly less scared when they took me in the OR. Immediately after the surgery, Dr. Thomas was right there to see how I was doing, and then went and talked to my wife to let her know how it went. I was released to go home late the following day and I’m not going to lie, recovery was rough. Had Dr. Thomas and Jack not prepared me, I would have been panicking. The first 2 weeks was insane, but just like the told me, everything started to progress exactly as they said it would. Long story short, 1 year later and I am so glad that I found them, and had the procedure done. I have about 90% less pain than I had, and can do pretty much anything I want to without worrying. Again, I can not say enough good things about Dr.Thomas, Jack, Crimson, and the entire team, including Dr. medley (the vascular surgeon that assisted), and all of the OR staff at NHRMC that helped me. After my experience, my research and talking to others, I am 100% confident that I made the right choice. I cannot thank them enough. They have given my life back.

I recently was treated by Dr. Alex Thomas for an S1/L5 fusion of my vertebrae and I highly recommend him. He's friendly, informative, and a commensurate professional within his field. I'm extremely happy with (although still healing) how concise, precise, and expeditious the procedure was (our NHRMC Hospital Staff was equally amazing during my overnight stay). He spared me a good bit of pain from some others I knew that had undertaken similar procedures but experienced complications with their respective surgeons process, results, and treatment(s), and even their attitudes. His medical assistant (whom took care of my scheduling/insurance questions/etc. was also a pleasure to work with). The overall staff (PA/front office) itself made a few basic snafu's (customer service, attitude, and otherwise) throughout the process which prompted me to be more proactive although in this day and age, you have to be anyway... especially concerning ones health. I'm guessing this (PA/front office) is… why some may get the wrong perception on the caliber of surgeons we have access to here (as some sites vary drastically in ratings). All minutiae aside where the rubber truly meets the road, I highly recommend Dr. Thomas and entrust him with anything and everything of mine within his respective field of expertise. Thank you for everything!

After 1 & a half years my right arm (which had no problem prior to surgery) continues to be numb. C3-7 Fusion failed! Woke up, arm on fire 7 days later another surgery... arm has been numb ever since! I have to live on gabapentin & muscle relaxers every day.. I have arm & shoulder pain.. I HATE him for what he did to me!!!

I had a brain abscess and went to Dr. Thomas, and within 24 hours, I had surgery and was on my way to recovery. His staff of people took good care of me. Excellent care and compassion!!!

Dr Thomas is an amazing physician! I was suffering with debilitating pain and other symptoms that were simply unbearable. He diagnosed my condition and set me up for surgical treatment. I can say I was a bit apprehensive about having back surgery. However, Dr. Thomas is a caring and thorough physician, my surgery went FANTASTIC! In retrospect, Dr. Thomas set my expectations well for the entire process. My recovery was exactly as he predicted, and uneventful. I was up and walking the next day, and have not looked back since! I used to own and operate 3 medical clinics for almost 20 years, so I understand medicine and how important good communication is for the patient. There are very few times that I been impressed with my personal experience as a patient. However, Dr Thomas is the tops in my book! A 5 Star experience Thank you Sir!!!

After years of struggling with back issues, my condition deteriorated to the extent I had a difficult time walking, sitting or should I say life without back pain 24-7. Dr. Thomas's P.A. was great and very knowledgeable and professional. Dr. Thomas was involved with all aspects of my treatment and kept me informed throughout the procedure. Thank you Dr. Thomas for giving me a pain free back. Dr. Thomas gave me my life back!!

Unfortunately I was required to have back surgery, fortunately I was referred to Dr. Thomas. After four years of struggling with back issues, my condition deteriorated to the extent I had a difficult time walking. His office screening procedure was handled professionally, his staff is highly educated, professional and were very supportive. The pre-op procedure personnel were reassuring and efficient. Dr. Thomas was involved with all aspects of the my treatment and kept me informed. Follow-up was excellent and as of today I have NO ISSUES with my back. Dr. Thomas gave me my life back!!

Things went exactly like Dr. Thomas said they would. It has been 6 months since surgery, I feel great, started playing golf, tennis and racquetball again. I would definitely recommend Dr Thomas and his staff.

For the past 3 years I have had no life. My back was broken in 3 places. My neck was the worst. I literally never left my house except to go to the doctor. Doctor Thomas gave me my life back. I am going out of the house and even had my hair done completely different. I feel like a new me, and wanted the outside to reflect the inside. I can never thank you enough Dr. Thomas and I will always say a special prayer for you.
