Dr. John G Porter, MD

I saw Dr. Porter for a workman's comp related neck injury. I had been miserable for 2 months with neck pain, upper back pain and headaches. Dr. Porter greeted me with a genuine smile and a hand shake. He also acknowledged that he knew what I did for a living, which meant he had taken the time to look at my chart in advance. So many doctors now a days are so busy they forget to take the time to make the visit personal, to make that personal connection. Just that little extra instantly put me at easy and assured me that I could trust him, that he would listen and that he cared about me, that I wasn't just another patient. He took a seat and pulled it up in front of me, sitting back relaxed, like he had all the time in the world to focus on me. After seeing other doctors, physical therapist, etc and being made to feel like I was exaggerating about my pain and discomfort, his approach to listening to me was such an unexpected surprise and made me feel important. After listening to my… complaints he talked to me in a way that I could easily understand, explained to me why he believed that I was still having so much pain. He righted all the other caregivers mistreatment of my pain and discomfort, by taking the time to really listen, to do a thorough examination and then explaining various options to address the pain. I opted for cortisone injections in my neck. He was very gentle and explained everything before he did it so I knew exactly what to expect. He reassured me that pain relief was on that way and a week later I can say that while I am still not 100% (he told me it would take a bit of time and 6-8 weeks of physical therapy), I am definitely on the road to recovery and feeling much less pain than when I got there that day. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Porter to anyone in need of spinal pain relief!

Dr. Porter is an amazing doctor! He takes time to listen to me and makes me feel as though I have a say in my care. He has my best interest and I will never trust another doctor like I trust him.

I have been going to Dr. John Porter for several yrs. Dr Porter and his staff are excellent. I have never had a visit that Dr. Porter didn’t listen, was kind and knowlegable. He tries to help you and usually does, listens to you and examines the area you are talking and explains everything to you or your family thoroughly. He is one of the best. My Orthopadic Dr. recommended him to me.

I have been seeing Dr. Porter for over 5 years, and am extremely happy with his care. He thoroughly explains procedures, diagnosis, and other treatment options. The time I spend waiting to see him is usually under 15 minutes. I have seen a doctor in another Marietta pain clinic, and there is no comparison. Highly recommend Dr. Porter.

I currently have six doctors. I have spinal (cervical and lumbar) pain; cardiac problems and am recuperating from colorectal cancer surgery. Of all those doctors that treated me, none have come close to the professional, courteous, and caring respect that Dr. Porter has had for me. It is hard, at times, to express the admiration I have for both Dr. Porter, Dr. Mefford, and their staff. They are the most friendly and helpful professionals I have had the luck of interacting with and this includes my own coworkers. I have referred him to my family, friends and associates knowing that their health would be in great hands.

Dr Porter is one of the good ones. He understands the pain people with chronic pain endure and he actually listens. Understanding there isn't a single option that works for everyone, he's tried to find solutions that work for me and my back pain so that I can live as active a life as possible. I'd recommend him.

After months of pain and numerous ER. visits I was sent to doctor Porter with chronic pain. He quickly diagnosed my problem in the thoracic spine. After two surgeries he has continued to keep my pain at a manageable level. I will probably never be pain free but with Dr. Porter's help I can live a productive life. I can't thank him and his staff enough.

He does not listen to you or your concerns, but staff is nice.
