Dr. John Robert Tompkins, MD

Thanks to Dr. John R Tompkins for performing lumbar spine surgery for my wife on Dec 08 2020. This operation took nearly 7 hours. The operation was very successful and brought my wife back to health. Our English is not good, but Dr. John R Tompkins communicated with us very carefully and patiently until we understood. Tompkins is a respectable doctor. He is approachable, has noble medical ethics and superb medical skills. The whole process moved us very much! Our family express our sincere thanks to Dr. Tompkins and his staffs once again??!

Think twice before allowing Dr. John Tompkins in Plano, TX to perform neurogical surgery on you. Here is a summary of my unacceptable experience with him and his staff. Within a month of the burr hole procedure he performed on me, I had to have a second emergency surgery which was preformed by another surgeon who had amazing skills in surgery and communication. Dr. Tompkins has poor bed-side manners and communication skills. He also left visible indentions on my forehead from the surgery which, according to other medical professionals, could have been easily eliminated at the time of the procedure. Also, neither he or his staff communicated proper instructions and activities for post-op care upon my discharge from the hospital. On my first two post-op visits at Dr. Tompkins office I met with his Nursing Assistant - I finally had to request to see the doctor for my third visit. My experience with his assistant was ridiculous as she: allowed me to leave my second visit with high… blood pressure without discussing the situation with the surgeon or me; asked me to remind her of previous instructions she had given me concerning certain medications, and seemed to be more concerned about getting to her next patient than taking care of my needs and concerns.

Dr. Tompkins performed my C5/C6 artificial disc replacement 8 years ago in 2011. Wonderful Doctor and outstanding result. Been 8 years now with the new disc and still doing great ! Many thanks to you Sir.

Dr. Tompkins did my lumbar spine fusion in 2016. The result is great. I have no more leg pain.

I might have been paralyzed if not for Dr. Tompkins, after a series of MRI's, I was told I needed emergency surgery. Thank God Dr. Tompkins was the neurosurgeon on call, he and his staff are wonderful and very good at what they do. I have recommended them to others and wouldn't go to anyone else for my degenerative disc disease.

Dr. Thompkin was extremely knowledgeable he was very confident in being able to correct the issue. For the amount of pain I was in I was not able to get schedule for surgery until two-weeks later. The office staff needs to have customer service training because Terri is extremely ugly to the patients and I am not sure if the doctor is aware of her attitude. Dr. Thompkin's PA made me feel very at ease; I wish that I had that feeling with the doctor, maybe it is that he's got so much on his mind. My husband liked the doctor because of him having 20 years of experiences. I like the fact that he is experience, but I want a doctor that makes me feel that he has compassion and cares also and I did not get that feeling from Dr. Thomkins. I am not seeking a second opinion.

Dr. Thompkins has always been a very Good Doctor in regards to dealing with my Pain situation.

His analysis of the paid after my Spinal Tap was off. Every single person I know who has had the same procedure (5 other people) had a longer recovery period than the 2 days (over a weekend) that I was told was normal.

This man saved my life! NF Tumors on the nerves that control my heart. He keeps up to date on the latest technology. He got me in for stereo tactic radio therapy when it was brand new technology. Well worth the wait.
