Dr. Jorge Norberto Kirschtein, MD

It appears that after being removed from multiple practices due to the extremely high rate of patient complaints, Jorge N. Kirschtein is may no longer be in practice. Hallelujah!

He likes to be called Dr K. He is abrasive and domineering but the most egregious part of my experience was when he brought up an analogy of a condition which I don’t even have (comparing panic attacks to orgasms) . It was my third session when he asked me for a third time if I suffered from panic attacks and for the third time I told him that I do not. It is obvious that he was waiting for the opportunity to discuss this “theory” with me and it ended my using him as my psychiatrist.I found this experience to be extremely traumatic. .

Kirschtein is fully represented of everything you don’t want in a psychiatrist including his caustic personality and attitude. Steer clear. It’s hard to find good psychiatrists in NYC who take insurance but keep searching.

Nasty man. Bad psychiatrist. Nor at all recommended. Zero stars!

I was very unhappy with this psychiatrist’s treatment of me as a patient and human being. He really demeans you during sessions with his nasty imperialist demeanor. I’m glad I found a good psychiatrist now who is kind and treats me with respect.

Terrible psychiatrist. Wouldn’t trust him to treat a goldfish! Also he’s rude as all get out.

I had a very bad experience as a patient of Dr.Jorge Kirschstein. I was intimidated by his style of questioning which I found aggressive and at times inappropriate. As an example, was very curious about my dating life in a way which I thought was irrelevant to a diagnosis and altogether too intrusive. When I tried to steer away from questions like this he would be insistent that he needed to know and become almost angry with me for resisting. I am female if that makes a difference to anyone reading this.

One star is too high a rating! He’s was rude and weirdly socially inept overall, I didn’t return after my initial appointment because it was obvious there was no way to have a normal or healthy rapport with him.

It has taken me to long to write this honest review of my experience. Why? Because it was so upsetting I haven’t wanted to deal with my feelings about it but now that I have been patient of a very good and easy to communicate with psychiatrist , I’ve decided to write about my experience to warn others. I saw Dr. Kirschstein last Spring and he was caustic, rude and very forceful about asking questions about my personal (dating) life (I am female) which are not relevant to my diagnosis or medication management . I was so uncomfortable in my sessions but felt obligated to answer questions when he demanded them even after I told him I was not comfortable with talking about this topic in detail. I sensed that it was not clinically appropriate but something he wanted to ask out of voyuerism. Unfortunately I had to stick it out until I was able to find another psychiatrist who takes my insurance. I just don’t understand how someone who behaves this way is the field of Mental Health.

The purpose of my review is to warn others who are in need of quality, respectful care to steer clear of Dr. Jorge Kirschstein. What a miserable condescending jerk who shouldn’t be in practice.
