 |  Do not recommend as psychiatrist  |  show details
Apr 29th, 2014

By way of background, I've been dealing with depression and anxiety for almost 20 years, and it's very manageable with medication. I went to this doctor when I moved to the area, as I needed a new psychiatrist. Although I was able to get an appointment quickly, the overall experience was bad. Dr. Haas interrupted me constantly to finish my sentences when I was describing my symptoms and medical history and most of the time he was wrong. He was very arrogant and condescending in his demeanor. When I explained that I have different reactions to a specific brand name medication versus its generic, he told me that was "medically impossible." When I informed him about the issues that have been investigated over the last 7 years with the differences between brand name v. generic psychiatric medications (see the 2007 issues with Wellbutrin, for example), he demanded that I show him the studies and became very rude and sarcastic. Then, although he gave me a brand name prescription, he ignored the pharmacy's three separate attempts to reach him for additional authorization (which resulted in me not having any medication whatsoever).

After reading these reviews I don't think I need to write another bad experience. How can the State continue to let him practice? Where do you report DR's that ABUSE the system? and take advantage of patients? This man is no pyschiarist he is in it only for the $$$$ and is actually a negative influence on his patients. PLEASE SOMEONE show these reviews to the State licensing board

This guy charges a fortune and is not the least bit helpful. You will sometimes wait a long time to see him and he will charge you $350.00 for a less than 15 minute session which is just to refill scripts, with the exception of the first and more expensive session. This guy also made a comment to me that he was interested in me sexually and wanted to know if I'd like to pursue the relationship outside of "therapy"; from reading the other comments, I am not the only one he did this too; he shouldn't be allowed to practice anymore.

I am a current patient .. currently seeking a new therapist. I am disgusted by this doctor. I am absolutely floored he is legally able to practice in the state of Florida. I was hoping my experience was just a random, sad, unfortunate occurrence, however after reading each of these reviews, all I can say is... wow. This man is as arrogant, as unprofessional, and as ridiculous as I initially thought him to be. He does not listen. He does not care. He does not help in any significant way. He hit on me. He knows nothing about addiction, nothing about medication, nothing about anything other than .... scheduling my next appointment. 15 minutes for 1 hour of pay. Does this seem normal? He actually told me if I want to schedule THERAPY sessions it would be a higher cost! I thought I was in therapy? Apparently, I am not. Apparently, I am only there to afford him a paycheck. He's a disgusting person. I could vomit going in there. I shake before my appointments. I have a busy life and I'm already stressed, but with this person as my doctor, well I'm even more stressed. I'm sorry I went to him. I'm sorry I expected professionalism. Thank goodness the people writing these reviews are battling their demons in spite of this person that seems to fuel their issues more than help. He's definitely worried about his own agenda rather than the patients he should be helping. Creepy pervert. EW!

 |  Don't ever see this "shrink" if you want to get better!  |  show details
by JG on May 8th, 2013

What a travesty. After waiting 45 minutes, Dr. Haas quickly rushed my first visit with my daughter who had never seen a shrink before. She called me crying afterwards......he didn't listen to her, bullied her, and even said, "why are you here today because this isn't a therapy session and I am not here to council you. (please refer to his website, pinellaspsych.com where he state that he does therapy! My daughter was in tears. I had even called the office ahead of time to let them know she was having a tough day. So, if a young adult can quickly refer to Haas as being, a bully, not listening and narcassitic, then PLEASE don't make your kids mental health worse by seeing Haas.

Please consider another provider for your mental health care. Initially Dr. Haas seemed attentive, but after a few sessions (that were intended to deal with my anxiety), it became quite evident he was everywhere but in session with me. At times, it was so obvious that he had heard nothing I had said, that I was embarrassed for him. It seemed his personal life and experiences were at the forefront of therapy. I have had anxiety, depression, and family dynamics problems for years, yet the discussions always came back to be about Dr. Haas. He also grew quite pompous. I expressed that I was upset about a recent weight gain, and Dr. Haas immediately prescribed Phentermine (amphetamine like med), and not exercise. This was not a drug for someone with anxiety. I am leery to seek any mental health care or start over again with a new provider after my experiences with Dr. Hass.

Almost seemed like my appt was a distraction to him. Never really felt like he cared or was interested in helping. I eventually decided it was just a waste of my time...wish I would have learned than earlier! Stay away!

You really should not be in Psychiatry if you lack the capacity to listen. Before I was able to finish answering a question, he would ask another question. Then comes to a conclusion of what I need without knowing the full story. I ripped up the prescription he gave me before I even left the building because he decided to prescribe me something I tried telling him would not work for me. Trust me, you want to find someone else!

I saw this dr for a long time, I wasted A TON of $ on him, I was addicted to opiates and sought his practice out for subutex, He is clueless when it comes to addicts. I was drinking a fifth of grain alcohol a day and every time I saw him he didnt even notice. He bills my insurance for full psychiatric sessions, yet only spends enough time to write my script. My partner said I just switched one drug dealer to another. My partner also said I paid for his car. I have seen many addiction specialists in my life and he is the worst! I just wish I hadnt wasted thousands of dollars on his so called treatment. Subutex...STAY AWAY from it and Dr. Haas!!!!

Our children ran our household. Somehow we had lost the power trying to accomodate them. Dr. Haas quickly asessed the situation and gave us sound and explicit instructions on how to regain our power. We are the parents and our job is to teach our kids how to excel in life and become responsible people. Implementing the new strategy wasn`t easy and the children definitly bucked the new system but we stayed firm, and I am so grateful to Dr. Haas for all his suggestions. They worked!! My 8 and 10 yr. old have fallen in line and I believe are happier for it. They no longer fight me to do homework, or help around the house. They understand that we are a team and together we can do anything. It`s a give and take relationship, no more just give, give, give. This doctor worked for us and I am sure if you listen and implement his strategies he can help you too.

My 11 yr. old daughter has \"\"SCHOOL PHOBIA\"\", not to be confused with Truancy. Dr. Haas assured me he had experience w this Phobia. Everything I read said keep everything else as normal as possible she is very active in dance, tumbling, sleepovers etc. or the Phobia could cross over into other areas. He gave me a game plan within 20 mins. of talking w my daughterdid not speak to me first. He said if she doesn`t go to school she doesn`t get to dance, take away her cell phone,T.V. anything she likes to do he said.He also said if she misses the bus her choices are to walk or ride her bike. Her school is 1.8 miles away and she would have to cross 2 very busy streets, talk about increasing her anxiety.I tried to tell him we tried that when she first stopped going to school and she slept and cried all day in her room. He said we`ll that was 5th gr. this is 6th gr. we`ll try it again. He gave her a RX for XANAX 11 yrs. oldand told her to take half when the bus was coming and the other half carry to school with her and take if she feels anxiety coming on.I called the next day and told his staff that he did not deliver the service that was promised and that I wasn`t going to follow any of his advice. I asked her if he could reduce the 350.00 fee. She said she would talk to him. The next response was the fee is 350.00, he will not lower the amt. He is very arrogant and full of himself. I think he thinks all cases can be handled the same way, he didn`t care to hear our story. What a waste of time..

My son had an appt with Dr. Haas on the 28th of June. We were called a few days before hand and told he had to change the time because he had something come up. Our appt was set for 2 pm we arrived at 150 and waited until 230 when I let his asst. know that we were leaving because I had something else to do. I got my insurance and he charged methem 325. His explanation is that we were paying for his time. Is that not ridiculous As if I had nothing better to do than sit there and wait and not be acknowledged by him. He`s arrogant and short. I woudn`t recommend him at all. The young lady who answers the phone is nice enough and she unfortunately has to take the brunt of the abuse from people who call about him. It is beyond ridiculous to expect a client to wait 30 minutes or more for an appt. BEWARE DO NOT GIVE HIM YOUR BUSINESS. I only gave a star because I had to choose at least one had it been up to me it would have been a negative amount of stars.
