Dr. Joseph Gerard Lalonde, MD

Dr LaLonde demonstrated a callousness with regards to the human condition. So many years later, I live with the after math, consequences of the fateful referral and subsequent care provided by Dr LaLonde, for which there is no absolution.

Dr. Lalonde is a excellent psychiatrist who cares about his patients. He's extremely accurate in diagnosing medical conditions. Dr. Lalonde always listened to what I had to say and had a wonderful way of making me feel hopeful. I made so much improvement under his care and he was the first doctor who I felt really cared about me. Anytime I had an urgent matter I could walk into his office without a scheduled appointment and Dr. Lalonde would always agree to see me. He's extremely personable with a caring bedside manner. I would highly recommend Dr. Lalonde to anyone in need of a psychiatrist.

This guy was very demeaning. He laughed -- yes, laughed -- at some of my very personal, painful memories. I used this doctor for a year. He diagnosed me with a disorder I've now discovered I do not even have. His "bedside manner" is atrocious. I would not recommend this man to treat anybody's depression, or to discuss any personal matters. He belittles. He makes fun of people. He's just mean.

Dr. Lalonde was great to solve my ADHD problem, he provided excellent medicine that I saw huge improvements in. However the staff and inability to make an appointment with ease become frustrating. On average I spent 3 minutes at most in his office for him to write prescriptions, however I spend on average 15-20 minutes waiting for him to bang out 2 patients while I am there.

This guy could be such a great doctor, but maybe he hates his job, hates seeing patients, or is just burned out. His diagnostic skills are really good, he can adjust meds to make them work better than just about anyone, but he's just so darned mean and unenthusiastic about his work, and it shows!There aren't many good psychiatrists, there are even fewer who take insurance, but it's worth looking to avoid doctors like this one. If you see him once or twice and don't like him, ask to switch to different doctor right away. If you wait they won't let you switch - he'd probably lose all his patients.I was there one day when a man was coming up from Cincinnati to see Dr LaLonde. Traffic was really bad, and he called to say he'd be 10 - 15 minutes late. Dr LaLonde left when the man was 5 minutes late! I was there when he got there, and sure enough - he was no more than 10 minutes late, and was pretty upset that Dr LaLonde had left when he'd called to explain, esp because he'd driven over 2… hours to get there!Fortunately one of the other doctors saw the man.. he was better off to see the other doctor anyway! Hope they let him switch permanately, or hope the guy found a doctor in Cincinnati.

I don't know who's worse, Dr. Lalonde or the terrible office he works at. The worst staff I've ever dealt with. They're short with patients, rude over the phone, and it's clear they take absolutely NO pride in their work.Meanwhile, as you're sitting down with Lalonde and telling him all your troubles, consider yourself lucky if he even looks at you. The jerkoff just sits there scribbling away, while periodically interjecting when he has something rude or sarcastic to say. I found myself becoming defensive when he made it seem like I wasn't saying the correct answers to his questions (as if there is such a thing as "correct" when he's asking you about your feelings and emotions). I probably sound like just a bitter former patient, and that's exactly what I am - and for good reason. Seriously, don't go to this doctor. He doesn't deserve your money or time, and you don't deserve the hassle.

Doesn't care about his patients. Iv been seeing DLalonde for a year now and I have never felt like he cared about what my needs were. I felt like cattle, in and out for nearly 210$ one month when he wanted to see me twice in one month and expected me to pay cash for a perscription that cost 160$ without giving me an alternative he simply said "take what you can afford". He clearly hates his job.

Dr Lalonde was able to diagnose my problem quickly. I hadn't thought that what I was diagnosed with would have been what I had, but I haven't felt this good in probably 15+ years. He does tend me make me feel anxious, and second guess what I am saying. Almost makes me feel defensive. Most of the time he has his head buried in his notes, or is taking notes, and I don't feel like he's really listening to what I have to say.As for the office staff - the receptionist is the most condescending, rude woman I've probably ever had the mis-pleasure of meeting. I fear calling in to find out when my appointment is (sometimes it's 3 months out and you forget) and she makes me feel so belittled for asking (or really forgetting! lol). Also, they have a big fluffy golden retriever that walks around the office from time to time. For people such as myself who are very allergic to dogs, this poses a problem, and it's very unprofessional. The lack of concern for their patients is unreal. While… the dog is sweet, it wants to constantly rub up against me. I have to double up on benadryl before coming in, and then I'm questioned by the doctor why I seem "out of it". Is it too much to ask for a psychiatrist who actually wants to spend a few minutes GENUINELY wanting to know how you feel?

If you are looking for an accurate and insightful diagnosis, Dr. Lalonde is your man. If you are looking for a competent psychiatrist who doesn't make you feel like an idiot every time you see him, then I suggest you keep looking.I will always be grateful to Dr. Lalonde for figuring out why my "depression" had not responded to traditional meds. I had spent most of my life with undiagnosed Attention Deficit Disorder, and he was the first person to even consider this as the source of my difficulties. Having an accurate diagnosis has made all the difference for me.That being said, I ended up finding a new doctor after about 6 months of treatment w/Dr. Lalonde.... I found that I DREADED going to see him, because I always ended up feeling "put down", defensive, or demeaned in some way. He really needs to work on his "people skills."
