Dr. Joshua Leibovitz is a graduate of University of California, San Diego in 1990, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Cellular Biology and Biochemistry. He then graduated from the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine in 1996, and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the Oregon Health Sciences University. Dr. Leibovitz has been a practicing Emergency Room physician since 1996, where he continues to work part-time. He developed an interest in Addiction Medicine through treating emergencies related to substance abuse and addiction, and he is now committed to this specialty. Dr. Leibovitz is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, and is currently DATA-waived to prescribe Suboxone for opioid dependence. He joined Ascension Medical in 2014. He plans on sitting for the addiction medicine boards in 2016.
Dr. Leibovitz feels strongly that addiction is a treatable illness with medications such as Suboxone and Vivitrol being important tools to aid in …recovery. He also stresses the importance of counseling, stress reduction, meditation and relaxation techniques, exercise, diet, and the use of support groups being integral to maintaining recovery.
Dr. Leibovitz lives in NE Portland and enjoys playing music, surfing, traveling, exercising, and spending time with his family and friends.
