Kathy is the best breast surgeon in the Boston area.I had 5 lumpectomies before having to have a mastectomy. My breasts are amazing now thanks to her and Dr, Guo.

 |  The best breast oncology surgeon!  |  show details

Without question, Dr. Calvillo was the best thing that could have happened to me after learning I had breast cancer in 2009. Her surgical skills are fantastic - she was able to remove the cancerous lump and the sentinal lymph node with only one incision. Two years later the scar is barely noticeable. She was very patient and caring in explaining my options to me at the initial consultation and took great care in delivering the good news post-op that the cancer had not gone into the lymph nodes. She is absolutely the best!

by Grace B. McMann, RN, CPNP on Sep 14th, 2010

I did my homework right after my initial bx in late July as I was fairly sure the lump I found was going to come back cancerous. I liked everything I had read about Dr. Calvillo, and being an MGH Nursing School graduate, her affiliation with MGH jumped out at me. I asked my primary MD to refer me to her and I had an appointment 3 days later (if it wasn't for the weekend I probably could have been seen the next day!). My husband accompanied me and we were so impressed with the amount of time we were given to ask questions (there were very few we had to ask as she pre-empted most of them by discussing almost all our concerns before we even addressed them--my checklist was a mute point because she answered everything just by talking to us). We left that first visit with a plan in place that was satisfactory to the 3 of us (husband included)and with handouts and diagrams that even my husband could follow. It took several other visits to finish my ''homework''--another mamogram to rule out a secondary area of suspicion, ultrasound, MRI of both breasts, genetic counselling and a visit to a plastic surgeon as well as a radiation oncologist before I made my final decision to go with a lumpectomy and hopefully just radiation for 6.5 weeks. I was able to get all these appointments scheduled within 2 weeks of my initial visit to Dr. Calvillo because her staff, as well as she, is awesome!I had my surgery, lumpectoy and sentinel node bx, 6 days ago and now wait for the pathology report. Whatever comes next I know with 100% certainty I am in good hands. Did I mention the kindness and concern for me AND my family throughout this journey so far? I am a pediatric nurse practitioner and have worked in the medical field since 1966. I would, and have, told my colleagues about the exceptional care I am receiving. I would not hesitate to refer and patient, family member, or friend to Dr. Calvillo.
