If only I could go back in time and never have stepped foot in his office! Was referred for epidural steroid injection. After his evaluation he decided to change my treatment plan and say I needed an SI joint injection instead. It did nothing for me as that was not the problem. My neurologist sent him another referral saying do the epidural injection. He seemed to have a very strange bedside manner and was like he couldn’t wait to run out of the room away from you. As if he was too busy for you. And he made strange jokes/comments as well. Come the day for the injection, I waited hours. It was scheduled for 10 am didn’t get taken back until almost 1:45pm. He did not offer any sedation or pain medication for this procedure as he said it was a “quick 6 minuets in and out”. They took me into the OR and preped me. He injected me with lidocaine and waited 60 seconds before he inserted the spinal needle. I was not numb whatsoever and expressed to him I was very much in pain. He told me it was… because it was a “dull needle” he continued to wiggle it around trying to get it into the correct spot as I continued to cry out in pain. He told me this was okay, I was feeling him hit the bone. This happened 3 times and each time he said i was just feeling him hit the bone. The radiologist seemed to be the only one who noticed, or cared, that I was in excruciating pain. He came over and held my hand and told me to breath. Dr. Burchill was getting frustrated as this was taking up too much time. He kept shouting to him “I need the image. I need an image!” The radiologist was trying his best to do the imaging and comfort me as everyone else in the or seemed to ignore me. After several attempts of wiggling that needle into my spine, he eventually inserted the needle too far in and punctured the dura causing me to leak csf and have a very severe spinal headache. Called a “wet tap”. This “6 minute procedure” turned into about 45 minuets. I was in excruciating pain so bad I was in tears the whole time during and after procedure and him and the nurse in the recovery room both told me I just needed to go home and take some Tylenol and ice it. The spinal headache lasted for 3 days. His nurse told me the only thing I could do for it was to increase my fluid intake. Or come in and have him do a blood patch on day 3. There was no way this man was ever getting close to me with a needle again! I am still having horrible pains in my back from this!! Do not trust this man!! I advise that you do your research before you ever let him touch you!

Dr. Birchill is a very kind and knowledgeable physician. He knows exactly what symptoms are linked to a back injury. I found him pleasant and reassuring. When I was in excruciating nerve pain he was the doctor that gave me the right medication at the right dose to quell the pain. This made it at least possible for me to function in daily life and be there mentally for my kids. If you are faking an injury he will be able to tell so just don't waste the doctor's time.

Stay away from this Burchill . He is the most incompetent Dr. I have ever been too . I will predict his practice will not survive him . If you don't believe it go see him one time and I bet you will be on this review agreeing
