A Camarillo doctor was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of writing prescriptions for controlled substances without a legitimate medical purpose, authorities said Friday. Kiansi Boni, 63, was arrested following a two-month investigation by the Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit and the California Medical Board, officials said. Boni also is accused of practicing medicine without a license, they said. Investigators said detectives arrested numerous patients of his during the past two months on suspicion of selling opiate medications prescribed by him. They said Boni wrote hundreds of prescriptions, some with multiple refills, for drugs such as methadone, suboxone, hydrocodone, codeine and Xanax. Investigators said they suspect Boni also failed to adequately examine the patients to determine the medical necessity for such prescriptions. Boni was being held in Ventura County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
