Dr. Kurt Averytt Brewster, MD

Just so people are aware, the one star review in 2010 came from a homeless advocate. Her plan was to sign every homeless person up for disability regardless of whether they qualified. Just so they could get funds. So these cases wound up getting an exam due to the profound lack of any documentation. I was told of this plan by the clients the state sent me. They told me they didn't apply for disability but were convinced by this person. When her 'plan' blew up in her face, she blamed me and got clients to barrage my pages with negative reviews. And she has the nerve to call me unethical. You notice she never listed a single act I was supposed to have committed. That's because it's a lie. I treated her clients with respect. I even called her to offer help getting them their medical records to help their claim. She didn't want any of that. Just a rubber stamp from me.

We were looking for a doctor who was not only knowledgeable, but caring and comfortable to be with. We certainly found those traits in Dr. Brewster! If you have concerns he listens to you and assists you with them. I have not always found that to be true of doctors I have dealt with. He is very pleasant and easy to talk to. We really appreciate the efforts he has put into caring for my husband and me!

Sadly, Dr. Brewster has to close down his clinic. He talked and/or wrote to all of his patients with the idea of no longer taking Medicare as payment, because of the tremendous amount of paperwork and hoops he had to jump through. (Medicare would still be allowable for tests, prescriptions, hospitalizations, etc.) We had a huge meeting, well attended, where Dr. Brewster explained his idea. I think a lot of the older people got scared, so they didn't want this change. I think it's a wonderful idea and a way to get Medicare off our backs, freeing up Dr. Brewster's time to give more attention to his patients. On a personal level, I think Dr. Brewster is a very good doctor. Personable, friendly, thorough. He always took the time to answer my questions and explain to me what was going on with my body. He is moving on now as he can't afford to keep his practice open. Hopefully he will stay in the Grants Pass area.

Dr. Brewster is an excellent doctor! I was being over-medicated when I first switched to Dr. Brewster as my primary physician. I had been taking 2 blood pressure pills; he eliminated the one that was making me gain weight. Recently he took me off Pravastatin for three months, and he was right -- I really didn't need to be taking it at all. I would definitely highly recommend Dr. Brewster to anyone because he is current with med side effects, and does not over-prescribe meds. And he is great about staying current with needed lab results.

Dr. Brewster is the first doctor that took more than 5 minutes with me. He went over all my medication and discovered an interaction that was raising my blood thinner. He also was able to take me off one of my high blood pressure medications. He spent over 25 minutes with me making sure I understood him. He's the best doctor I ever visited.

For the safety of all patients this individual is not recommended. This as of the result of applying unethical means in evaluating clients. Unknown if his personal issues are based on racial, ethnic, gender or whatever. Does not views his clients especially those who are veterans and/ or DHS clients awaiting trial for approval. Both ODHS and this indiviudal should be evaluating for allowing unethical practices to be used against human beings. It would be highly recommended that the AMA review his misconduct.

Without going into too many specifics I became familiar with Dr. Brewster through the urging of a friend after becoming ill with an out of the blue freak illness in which I would pass out with NO warning and then be completely fine 10 to 20 seconds later. That is except for the broken nose,twice,bruised ribs,tooth knocked out,and various cuts and bruises from the falls.I have an hmo and was admitted and released after one night due to lack of symptoms,then had an episode less than an hour after being released, readmitted for four days of monitoring and various testing.. heart, head,ect... Although I experienced several episodes while hooked up, all they could tell me was yes 'something' happened but no diagnosis. I was released and scheduled for more testing in the coming weeks. During that time I had a consult and examination with Dr. Brewster. The exam itself showed nothing specific but we chatted and through his method of questioning, a cough which appeared insignificant ended up… being the root of the problem. Cough syncopy was Dr. Brewster's diagnosis which was then confirmed and treated by my hmo. Dr. Brewster went beyond the 'physical' condition,or lack of,and with careful questioning and attention to detail was spot on and for that I am grateful. I would reccomend Dr. Brewster in a heartbeat!
