Dr. Lan Chen, MD

Highly satisfied. She is a doctor that truly meets me where I am and helps me reach my goals.

I was referred to Dr. Lan Chen after I went to my general physician asking about ankle pain I was having. When I saw Dr. Chen, I was immediately taken to get X-Rays done. The staff were decently nice. When Dr. Chen came in, while she carefully concentrated on examining my ankle, when we looked at the X-rays together, I swore I saw narrowing in one of the joints. I tried to express this and to ask questions about the diagnosis of a particular strain that she gave me (despite me swearing up and down that I had NOT injured my ankle), but was unable to speak as Dr. Chen kept interrupting, and she refused to listen to me. She seemed to have a superiority complex that made her very unlikeable. She was also incredibly wrong regarding my X-Rays. She barely looked them over, and not surprisingly she missed what even I saw. According to my test results in North Shore Connect, as done by a radiologist at Evanston Hospital, I have very early osteoarthritis of the ankle, in exactly the place I was… having pain! I'm going to double check on this with my primary care physician, but I would not recommend Dr. Lan Chen.

Have had to wait over one hour to see the doctor every time I have an appointment with her. She is not gentle. She leaned on my leg even though I told her not too and a day later my leg is black and blue. I would not recommend her to anyone, her bed side manner is non existent, she is not gentle and she does not explain things at all! Stay away from this doctor if at all possible!

I waited to see her for over an hour. She made a diagnosis without taking an MRI. She never called me to let me know if my insurance would pay for a procedure that "may" help my problem. Seemed uncaring and preoccupied. If zero stars was an option, that is what I would rate her.

I had been to several orthopedic surgeons on the North Shore and based on the x-rays and MRIs, no one had been able to figure out why my foot was in pain. Dr. Chen was the first doctor who offered solutions that made sense and she started by recommending the least invasive solution but then followed up with me when that wasn't quite enough. She listened carefully to what I was saying, took careful notes, and even seemed to study those notes in between appointments because she remembered details I had mentioned months before. She was professional, thorough, intelligent, and an excellent surgeon. The results of my surgery are so much more than I had expected. Finally, my foot is pain free. I am usually a fairly critical person, but I would honestly say she is the best doctor I have ever been to and I cannot recommend her more highly.

Worst bedside manner I have ever experienced. Arrogant, uncaring, cold. Run - there are a million better doctors that this one. Huge Napolean complex
