Dr. Lauren Field Adey, MD

I have has both hands done by Dr. A dry and both came out 100%! She did excellent job, you can't even tell by looking at my hands that I had surgery....Great Job!!!

I was told Dr. Lauren Adey was one of the best hand doctor's in the state. What I wasn't told is that she and her staff have possibly the WORST bedside manners in New England. I had to see her for a ganglion in my wrist. I sat in the waiting room for close to 1 1/2 hours. I was told that she was running a "tad" behind and if I chose not to stay, they would need to reschedule my appointment and it would be "months" before they could see me again. When it was finally my turn to be seen, the nurse assistant (who knew me from high school) asked VERY invasive and unrelated-to-my-visit questions, made inappropriate comments about my weight, and was generally very rude towards me. And when I finally saw Dr. Adey after what ended up being close to two hours of waiting, she was with me for FOUR MINUTES before dismissing me. She came in, didn't introduce herself, grabbed my wrist hastily, poked at my ganglion and said, "There's nothing we can do." I tried to explain to her that I was a… writer and that the ganglion was causing me a tremendous amount of pain. She interrupted me, "Impossible. Ganglion's don't cause pain. Your pain is totally unrelated." Calmly, I responded: "So, the pain in my wrist that started at the same time as, and is located in, the spot as the ganglion is just a coincidence?" She curtly responded, "Yes." And began ushering me out. "I can't open the windows, turn my steering wheel, open jars, or do yoga because of this thing. And there's NOTHING you can do?" She sighed heavily and sat back down, "IT'S IMPOSSIBLE FOR THERE TO BE PAIN THERE." She enunciated each word and spoke in a tone like I was stupid. "It's just a little pebble in your shoe. You'll get used to it being there." My eyes widened: "For the rest of my life?" She shrugged, "I don't know. Maybe." She sighed again and stood up, pulled out a wrist brace, grabbed my hand and shoved it on. "Wear this for a month, and if you're still 'in pain' then I'll see you again." And then she walked out. I was stunned at the entire transaction. I still am.
