Dr. Shafron diagnosed me with glaucoma and did surgery for it. Then the new Dr. in his office told me I had thick corneas and the pressure readings were normal and I never had glaucoma. Always makes everyone wait at least 2 hours.

I took my elderly mother, who has some dementia, to Dr. Shafron's office. It had only been 11 months since we'd had my mom's eyes checked, but she'd been complaining constantly about her vision. In fact, she fixated on it, that and her hearing, among other complaints. But fixation is apparently pretty common with some dementia patients. Wanting Dr. Shafron's staff to understand what we were dealing with, I told the first medical professional who began Mom's eye exam what was going on. As it turned out (and with no surprise to me!), mother's vision had not deteriorated a bit since her last exam. She didn't even need a new prescription for glasses!! Both the optometrist (Dee) and Dr. Shafron made it very clear to my mother that her vision was absolutely fine. When the cataract in her right eye progresses to the point of needing surgery, they would take care of that, but otherwise, she was good for one year - until her next annual eye exam! I appreciated all of the staff who made the extra effort to be sure my mother understood. It was a relief to me. I wrote down in my dayplanner exactly what Dr. Shafron said and had my mother initial it. So the next time she complains about her eyesight, I can show her and remind her that her vision is fine.
