Dr. Lee Michael Akst, MD

My appointment with Dr. Akst was the first unprofessional experience l have ever had with a medical provider. I arrived with my printed out referral form, Dr. Akst demanded I call and confront my doctor about why he had referred me because he did not understand the form. When the doctor did not answer as it was the end of the work day, he then berated me until I called a family member who had attended the appointment with the referring doctor, to corroborate what I remembered. This was all for a routine airway examination, not any specialty treatment. I have never had an experience like this with a medical care provider. He was becoming so unexplainably hostile during the appointment that the speech pathologist present was visibly uncomfortable and left the room, which made me even more uncomfortable. At the end of the appointment, he apologized for being a "jerk" which was little consolation. I've never been one to write reviews, but I'm so baffled about what happened all I can think… to do is warn others. On the bright side, the staff at the front desk are extremely nice! I'm more than willing to speak about this experience further with him or his office. I may have caught him on a bad day, but as of now, I do not think that anyone should trust him with something as important as their health.

I have been a patient of, and have had successful vocal chord surgery (KTP laser) performed by Dr. Akst for recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, a condition I have had since childhood. I cannot praise this wonderful doctor enough, not only for his excellent skill but for his very kind, thorough and competent bedside manner. In all my visits with him he never has appeared rushed in any way and always takes time to explain options of available treatments and to address any questions and concerns I might have. You can rest assured that he is well-trained and at the top of his field. You will feel you are in good hands and will receive the best care available from Dr. Akst.

Dr. Lee Akst is exceptional. He was professional and took time to explain the process. He discovered that I had cancer, after being mis-diagnosed. I am forever grateful to him. He is an incredible surgeon and did a wonderful job restoring my voice and ability to breathe. I would recommend him to anyone in need.
