Dr. Lewis Puller Dabney, MD

Dr Dabney gives unexplained rectal exams and resigned when called out by over 200 women on Facebook for mistreatment and malpractice. Do not recommend whatsoever. Run far away.

Dr. Dabney was my Gynecologist for over 2 decades. He also served my late mother for several years. We both thought highly of him. He was easy to talk to, kind, courteous and very knowledgeable and professional. He took time to explain diagnoses, promptly recommended and performed, necessary and appropriate procedures and treatments. I would recommend him to anyone.

My experience with this dr was not pleasant. As of an exam isn’t bad enough to encounter. The forcefulness that was used was painful. And especially when he did the rectal examination. I suffer with hormonal imbalances l, because I know my body. And he refused to do a test to see if I was going through perimenopause or not. Haven’t went for another exam since then.

Dr. Dabney has been my doctor for almost 2 decades. He really cares about his patients. He has always listened and helped me find solutions to problems. He is conversational which is a great distraction during exams. Recently he was my surgeon and I had an excellent outcome.

I’ll NEVER forget my horrifying experience with Dr. Lewis Dabney! I went in for a routine annual OBGYN exam and to discuss some of the side effects I felt I was experiencing on birth control pills. Alone with him in his office, we briefly discussed some of my concerns ahead of the physical exam. Very quickly the conversation turned completely inappropriate by him. I was absolutely shocked and blindsided! As I sat there visibly upset and squirming in my chair, he continued with the verbally sexually inappropriate conversation, appearing even to enjoy my discomfort. Dr. Dabney wanted to discuss how my sex drive was and how much sex I was having with my boyfriend. I thought this was completely odd and I wasn’t sure how this was related to the birth control I was taking, but I reluctantly answered his questions. However my fears were confirmed with his next questions. He then wanted to know if I liked to dress up and role play with my boyfriend (and now husband), and if so, wanted… details on exactly what I wore - did I like to wear lingerie and if so what kind - and if we role played, how that played out. Barely in my 20’s I was absolutely panicked and had NO IDEA what to do! I felt degraded and terrified. I refused to engage in that inappropriate conversation and INSISTED that he run a hormone panel on me to see how the birth control pills were affecting how I was feeling. (That never happened.) These extremely offensive and inappropriate comments were not asked only of me, but you can read previous reviews of women describing similar inappropriate encounters with him. On it’s own, going to an OBGYN office is already a vulnerable and uncomfortable place for a woman. Imagine going from the verbal encounter with Dr. Dabney above, to then having to have a breast and vaginal exam from him! I cringed and held my breath as he proceeded with the exam. During the vaginal portion of the exam, and without warning (which is always supposed to be done), he then rammed his finger into my rectum, which was extremely forceful and painful. (This was also described online by another patient.) I couldn’t get out of Dr. Dabney’s office fast enough. I felt like I’d just been sexually harassed and assaulted - and by a medical doctor! Shaking, I walked straight to my car in the parking lot, locked the doors, and absolutely bawled my eyes out. I cried and cried until I was finally able to calm down enough in order to drive myself home. This encounter with him was traumatic and is absolutely seared into my memory. I’m sharing this for two reasons: 1) because it’s significant enough that other local women deserve the right to know and be warned - it was traumatizing to me and I’m flabbergasted he’s still in practice, and 2) I cannot imagine for one second that I am the only patient that experienced a similarly incredibly inappropriate encounter with him.

Dr. Dabney is an okay gynecologist but his staff is unreliable. I have been waiting on my medical records to be released for over a week via doctors request. I cannot make an appointment with my new doctor until... and their reply is "the lady who handles medical records has been working as a nurse for the past couple of weeks. I mean they will tell you this as if that is supposed to be an acceptable reason as to why they're not handling your needs and request.

I was recently reminded as to why I began looking for a new doc. He talks too much, listens to 4 of your words, assumes he knows the rest of what you planned to say, and goes off on 20 minute "expert" explanations on how your thoughts/feelings are wrong. Unless you prefer a mansplaining, condescending, inconsiderate doctor who does not listen, go elsewhere! Also, he does not inform you that you will receive a rectal exam. No announcement, unpleasant surprise! Horrible experience all around!

His staff was very sweet to my 87 year old mom, who is an extreme nervous nilly. Robinette was our nurse and both she and Dr. Dabney, handled her with kid gloves. She went out of there knowing that he was going to be her doctor forever! But most of all she is doing great. Thank- you Dr. Dabney, Robinette and staff.
