Patient Reviews ? Write a Review
I was VERY happy with Dr. Book. She was very personable, easy to talk to and she listened. She spent almost 2 hours with me, and gave me several options! She was wonderful! I will keep her!! :)
Dr. Book is very thorough and reviews your portfolio like no other doctor I know. She even sends you home with updated instructions to follow. She takes your questions, spends time to answer them and makes sure you know how your health is progressing. She is honest about areas that need improvement which may be a bit difficult to swallow but ultimately helps you as a patient. Making appointments earlier in the day helps with scheduling.
One thing about Dr. Book, she will tell it like it is, and I think that will put some people off a bit. She, along with Margie Parker and Elaine Doherty, will spend the time with you going step by step what they expect you to do to help yourself, and to make sure you stay on your prescribed regimen. Sometimes, taking this time with each patient will cause appointments to start late, and I'll admit it has upset me at times, but I truly appreciate them taking the time to go over my treatment plan. They care about their patients, and I appreciate that they take Tricare as well.
I have been seeing Dr. Book since 2005. She has helped me get off medicine that I didn't need and lowered what I need to take. She is wonderful.
I do not like to leave negative reviews, but I cannot say enough BAD about this person. She was totally condescending, and I ended up being horrendously hypo-thyroid after her so-called 'care'. I was in extreme hypothyroidism at the rate of '52' (normal range is 1-4!); and it took many months to get back to any semblance of normalcy. Avoid her at all costs!
Three months to get a scheduled appointment, filled out all paperwork with glucose levels for two weeks, office staff bordered on rude, not friendly at all, waited for 30 minutes to get pre-interview apt, asking questions like medications that they already had right in front of them, when doctor arrive refused me any time because glucose monitor levels were not current enough. I think this office is simply in the business of billing for appointments that they find a way to put off and/or not treat adding to the billions of Medicare fraud. A really poor experience, don't waste your time here
Waited several months for visit, then several more for testing. Still no diagnosis, no relief.
Im trying to make an appointment with this doctor and the person that got my phonecall just sounds very rude and doesnt sound like they even want to see patients. And after reading on here how horrible they are in general I will be looking for another Endo I dont care if i have to wait for another year to find another one or I have to drive all the way to denver or even to another state just to see another doctor.
Awful bedside manner, rude and arrogant.
I have never experienced this level of unprofessional behavior
After 2 & 1/2 months of trying to jump thru ALL their hoops just to get a first appointment, I still wasn't able to get an appointment. Everytime I called it was a list of things they wanted, which had already been sent. I'd fax all the paperwork they requested, then was told, yet again, to call back in a week. Only to be told the exact same nonsense again. Even after you comply with everything they claim they need, that DOESN'T guarantee you'll get an appointment. I was told repeatedly that once the Dr. receives everything then she'll decide IF she's going to take you as a patient. Ridiculous. The extremely unfriendly receptionist I got was also extremely Rude!!
HORRIABLE EXPERIANCE, TRYING TO SCHEDULE IS A JOKE.... I DONOT RECCOMMEND ANYONE TO THIS OFFICE... RECEPTIONIST ARE RUDE...
After having four kids and literally thousands of doctor's appointments, this BY FAR, was the worst doctor and experience. I have hypothyroidism and was told by my primary care that my TSH was 5 and I needed to see an endocrinologist. When I got to Dr. Books' office this morning, she told me I have gained 15 lbs in the past 10 months because I eat too much food my perception of what I feel is just that, a perception and delusional. She said my labs were fine and I should see a psychologist. I never was able to get even one full sentence out before she would cut in...and so after 12 minutes of feeling absolutely horrible-I walked out and told her I refused to be treated this way. Very sad and still, untreated.
Refused to even go to this doctor after four or five calls and zero help or compassion from the staff and even the office manager. I would recommend if you are referred here to automatically ask for a referral to another doctor's office.
Lori Book and her staff has a reputation that precedes her... she is indeed very arrogant. She appears preoccupied running her instead of remaining current with modern treatment options that would better serve her patientsâ¦.She seems to be stuck in old school medicine. We all know that the routine TSH panels are not reliable and sometimes natural thyroid is a better choiceâ¦especially when symptoms cycle up and down, persist or worsen. (T3/T4- Think outside the box...Hormone Treatments.) Otherwise, the practice appears a mass production line collecting insurance payments and business as usual. However, this is my humble opinion only. There are other qualified doctors in the area that offer professional, modern services in the field, she is NOT the only one, simply research or ask your friends...why settle?
I have been in contact with this ofice for at least 4 weeks now to try to start the new patient process, after my dr in denver retired! after a referral from my pcp and blood work that was faxed, i called to see about the next step. I was told that dr book does not see patients on thyroid medication. i would have to stop my meds before she would even consider me as a patient. WHAT ! Floored as to why no one said anything about this in the beginning as of course i am on thyroid meds as my thryoid not right! could have saved me valuable time with some simple communication and maybe some honest information!
You pay the "Specialist fee" every time you visit the office but in 3 years I hardly saw Dr. Lori Book. Why pay so much money for other staff/assistant to check on you. Her staff is very rude and they can benefit from taking some customer service classes. Yes, I found a new doctor who really care about the patient.
Are first experience was as simple as faxing documents between my (PCP), and it could not be accomplished easy. After two weeks of waiting for any response from her or her staff to confirm if the documents were faxed correctly I had contacted her to figure out was going on. The staff was rude and said they had never received the fax and that its was my responsibility to have got that to them. Second was finally when all the documents were in They wanted my test results which is fine; however, they were rude about me having to change between testers. Which it's my money that has to pay for my supplies not them. Finally after 3 months I get my appointment scheduled, and get to meet this doctor. My appointment was at 10 :30 i had arrived early. the nurse had come in at 11. One her nurse is very obese and was very hostile to the easy tasks of checking your height and weight. He seemed like a drill Sargent. After getting to the room 45 min had went by before the doctor had straddled in and started to compare me to her other patients, and how I wasn't going to waist her money! Out of three weeks of testing three times a day I had missed a couple tests, and she felt the need to jump down my throat about her paycheck. 2 hours of waiting and she didn't even have a sorry when she came in the door I had felt that it was very unprofessional. I had walked out really upset and frustrated. It was the worst feeling and experience I had ever had at a doctors office.
If you are reading this now about Dr. Lori Book, please consider yourself warned. Dr. Book is a very self-absorbed doctor and trust me, she could care less about your health. I saw her for a thyroid nodule and she blew me off as her patient as fast as she could. When I could not get an appt. to see her earlier than 6 months out and expressed my dismay, I was contacted by her office and told she no longer wanted to see me as a patient. Then, to add insult to complete non-professionalism, when my new doctor contacted her to get my biopsy report from my surgery, Dr. Book had the absolute gaul to deny I was ever her patient. She is seriously out there folks. Beware is all I can say. Find someone else for sure.
I saw Dr. Book a number of times for a thyroid problem. When I tried to make appts. they were impossible to get unless you waited a really long time. So I made and appt. and I told the receptionist that if something happened to me while I was waiting all these months to see her I was going to have my family go after the doctor. They called me back the next day and told me that Dr. Book would no longer see me as a patient. She was always very aloof and arrogant when I saw her. Trust me, there are far better doctors than this gal.
Her staff is incredibly rude, I must agree with everyone who has said so. I also agree that she is incredibly arrogant and opinionated, and that she repeatedly told me everything my previous Endos told me was WRONG. After asking how I was diagnosed she interrupted me several times to say "No, it doesn't work that way" and became disgusted at what my previous docs said. ON THE OTHER HAND - she was by far the most thorough doctor of any kind I have every seen! She was crazy rude about my weight, stating that there is no reason that hypothyroidism would keep me from losing weight (despite the fact that everything I've ever read upholds the weight being attributable in part to hypothyroidism) and told me to join weight watchers. That nastiness aside, she explained more to me about my thyroid problems that anyone ever has before. She put me on a regimen of supplements and ordered detailed labs before my next appointment. I was thrilled with her medical expertise and that will be why I go back. When I left, her super-unhelpful staff gave me the paperwork I filled out for them along with what was meant for me to take home, and I received an incredibly gentle message from them asking if I had it. Overall I think the rude staff is worth getting the GOOD stuff this doc has to offer. You just have to take it along with the bad.
This is the worst experience I have ever had with a endocrinologist. The staff is so arrogant and rude they make me want to vomit. After waiting for over an hour in the room past my appointment time with no word from anyone I finally got up and left. The MA is a morbidly obese, disgusting half a man who thinks he owns the establishment and tries to belittle anything you ask or say to him. Dr. Book prescribed me about 1/4 of the insulin I have to use in a month and when asking her why she is short changing me on an insulin prescription that costs over 130 dollars a vial when not prescribed and covered with my insurance she said my previous endo was an idiot for prescribing that much and sure enough 1 week later I was out. When calling and speaking to the insanely rude staff to request more insulin they said absolutely not and I would have to come in to be seen again. Margie Parker is the only person on her staff that has any sense and is actually someone I would recommend. I would not recommend her if you have to go through Lori Book to see her though which is sad.
No wonder she is still accepting patients...look at all of these bad reviews. I am amazed at her arrogance without the years of experience to back it up. I told her what other respected Drs had shared with me on my issues and she bashed them as essentially quacks. They had many more years of experience, but were no longer on my insurance plan. I paid cash to the other Drs even though my plan allowed me to pay her $25. It was a waste of my $25. I should have walked out when she made me wait an hour in the waiting room. It took me that long to get to a patient room and I saw no other people waiting in the waiting room. What was she doing back there watching Oprah? Seriously, don't waste your time or money. Drive to another city before bothering with her.
Dr. Book's receptionist was rude and hateful... Her vitals nurse was a jerk... I have a cyst on my thyroid and when telling me about the surgery dr.book said ... We will slit your throat!!! The second time she said it I had to leave the room!! All she could say was ... Why does that bother you... Duuuuhhh!! She then proceeded to belittle my primary care and ent dr.... Was a most awful experience..
She is a great Dr. She spent an hour and a 1/2 with me and explained exactly what has been going on with my body. She answered all of my questions and was willing to sit there and answer them and I did not feel rushed!! She is the first person in a number of years that I have gone to that has really explained everything to me in a detailed manner. I am so lucky to have found her!
Dr. Book is helpful, sympathetic and caring. She may benefit from giving some customer friendly training to receptionist. She ALWAYS explains her diagnosis without making me feel I am uneducated. She treats me with respect.
After my experience on the phone with her receptionist, I couldn't even bring myself to make an appointment and asked my primary physician to refer me to a different doctor. Dr. Book may be a fantastic MD, but her business sense is definitely lacking.
Staff was rude. I'm fully blind and I got no help. The medical advice was not working for me. If I followed her advice I would have been in a coma or dead.
She takes time to explain everything and very friendly
The very first appointment I had with her she cancelled do to weather conditions. I got a call at 6:00 AM on that morning. I made another appointment and I had to cancel, do to seeing a tutor for school. I made another appointment and had to cancel for the same reason. So I decided in all fairness to make an appointment when school was out. When I called to make that appointment the receptionist said, I should have a recent blood test anyway. I get a call from them about a week later cancelling my appointment and saying not to bother making a new one. At which her receptionist was extremely rude on my answering machine. It seems after reading her reviews that she did me a huge favor.
Went in for hypothyroidism. I have a large nodule on the left side that I have been treated for over 20 years for. She said that I did not have a thyroid problem and was wasting her time. Her diagnosis was that I was over weight, which I am at 175lbs and 5'3". She left the room and came back with a phone number/address for Weight Watchers and told me to go directly over.
This has got to be the worst experience with a Doctor I have ever had. Waited over an hour before someone poked thier head in and told me they would be in shortly. The staff are the most unprofessional, rude and discourtiest staff I have ever seen in my life. A little old lady came in to inquire what the next door's buisness office hours were. The receptionist told her in very snoty way, "Well since I don't work there you need to go back and ask them." When obviously they were closed and the woman was trying to get a little information.. Horrible, unprofessional, disgusting people in general!
I felt Dr Book was a good Dr, but her office staff is so bad, I stopped seeing her because of them. I had tried to call several times and kept getting prompted to leave a message...after leaving several messages, I finally called again and spoke with someone. They told me there was no way to leave a message, or if there was, no one in the office knew how to retrieve the messages. My primary Dr would have to fax lab work over three or four times before they would finally say they got it. One time I asked to have the Dr call me back, her nurse flatly refused to get a message to her. When I needed a refill on my prescription, the pharmacy called and faxed the office at least six times, I called five times to finally get a refill after two weeks!!! The staff just don't care about people.
I was very unhappy with this doctor her bed side manner was awful. She did not listen to me what so ever and kept telling me everything I said was wrong. I was told by this doctor to stop my meds but she did not tell me to do it slowly and I went cold turkey. She had no interest in helping me find out why I am so sick and I left my appointment crying. I got sick after the birth of my son and I think it is my hormones. I tried to ask her for help in this but she said I was wrong hormones would not make me sick. I was so unherd and left the appointment crying. I would not go back to this doctor.
Dr. Book is literally the best doctor I have ever seen. She spent an hour and a half explaining details of my condition to me.
I think Dr Lori Book has a great bedside manner. I seen a Endochronologist in Denver who did not explain anything to me, and who kept me waiting in the waiting room for over 45 minutes, each visit, and 20 mins in the room.Om my first visit, I got Dr. Book's full attention for a full hour. She explained my condition, drew pictures, and went over all of my reports from my fine aspirated biopsies,my ultrasound reports, discussed my Diabetes, my care and all my options. I felt comfortable asking all of my questions, and felt she explained everything in detail. I feel like she is an excellent straight forward Doctor who cares about you, your treament, and options. I feel the staff are polite, and whenever I had to call there for questions, my questions were answered or a call was returned within that day.
Would never go see Dr Lori Book again, very, very poor beside manner, it's her way or the highway, does not believe in taking vitamins ven though diabetes depletes the body of vitamins. major control freak!!!!
In the 4 years I have been a patient I have only seen Dr. Book twice. She uses a rotation and so you only see her every 3 times you come in. Her bedside manner stinks and her staff is rude, especially Rick, her MA.
My daughter is a Type I diabetic who was diagnosed at age 13. She has been a patient of Dr. Book's for about 5 years. Dr. Book has always been straightforward with my daughter as a teenager; warning her of the difficulties she could face if she did not take control of her diabetes. She has connected with my daughter in a way that 3 other doctors were unable to do. Dr. Book has answered ANY questions we have had concerning my daughters diabetes in relation to drugs, alcohol and sex. As a mother, you can understand how important it was to me that my daughter be given straight answers about these issues. Dr. Book and her staff have done a wonderful job in getting my daughter's diabetes to a more manageable level. My daughter is currently on an insulin pump and is in the process of receiving a continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS); Dr. Book's medical assistant has been the "point man" in helping us get this system. I can recall the moment when I decided that Dr. Book was the doc for us; my daughter had been sick all night, Dr. Book happened to be the endo on call and I spoke to her a few times in the middle of the night while we were dealing with extreme lows and illness. The next day Dr. Book called us at home to check on the status of my daughter....at that moment I knew we had found a caring, concerned doctor. One note for new patients....if you want the truth about your condition and the consequences about non-compliance regarding your health, Dr. Book is the doc for you; she is blunt, knowledgable and straightforward, there is no confusion when you leave her about what can and can't happen.
I've been seeing doctors for over 40 years of my life, 29 years of that time seeing military doctors. Their staffs have always been courteous and professional. However, this staff of Dr. Books need some instruction in how to deal with patients. Rude is a very nice word to use in describing their staffs. When setting up an appointment with them it's almost like I owe THEM something! Getting an appointment is like pulling teeth. I saw Dr. Book for the first time on 28 Oct 09...my next appointment could not be scheduled until 29 Dec 09. When I had to cancel that appointment the next available was not until 20 Jan 10. As to Dr. Book, the jury's not out on that yet. She did spend a lot of time with me and explained some things concerning hypothyrodism. She took me off my Synthoid and will reevaluate later, and put me on a lot of vitamins to include a heavy dose of Vit D. She also discussed my need to lose some weight (I'm about 5-10 pounds overweight at age 54). Part of my problem for not working out is my lack of energy thus we're in a visious circle. Anyway, the 20 Jan appointment will be their truth-teller on this doctor.
I am already on Armour Thyroid and several supplements for sugar utilization and the first thing this "Dr." did was sit me down and tell me that I do not have anything wrong with my thryoid based on the "numbers." When I explained that my symtpoms had all but been taken care of she called it the placebo effect. When I asked her to explain how my symptoms disappeared she said she was not a "symptom doctor" --- I don't even know what that means. Don't we all go to doctors because of symptoms? She then went on to point me to "her" references which, when read, contradict everything she told me. She literally crossed out the levels of TSH on my paper and added her own levels which topped out at 5.5 even though the AACE lowered the levels to 3.0 back in 2004 for hypothyroidism! When this was pointed out to her via email I was sent a letter that said I must have "misunderstood her education" and that I should "re-read my To Do List" and that I was "welcome to seek endocrine care elsewhere" --- which is exactly what I plan to do. This woman is a quack in a very, very small doctor box and her staff is as rude as she is. If you are going to this woman you are doing yourself a disservice!
Dr. Books canceled 4 appointments in one year. Constantly refers me to NP or PA care and appears to have no time for patients. Appears not to be very knowledgeable and somewhat defensive when dealing with me or my questions. Hard to get appointments and cancels without concerns with patient feelings or outcome. I would rate her the worst endocrinolgist I've seen in this area.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! She's an MD and she will remind you many times during your 1 hour late appointment. She didn't want to hear my history. She came into the room stating she would not prescribe the meds that had worked to date-practically the first words out of her mouth. She said that the other Drs. to date were wrong and she was the MD (they were MDs too and they had more than 5 years experience unlike her). She even said that the OB/GYN from 12 years ago was wrong just off of one small story. She is the MD and she is the smartest one of all. If you don't believe me, just ask her. She wasn't shy about telling me. BTW, she kept insisting that Cytomel is just like crack cocaine and she became fixated and kept repeating it when she wasn't telling me she was an MD. As we walked out the door, she remembered she had not examined me. It was nice that she bothered to touch my thyroid since she had already decided my cure. LOL.
Has no character and is very rude! Turned me away today becuase I didn't allow her to speak down to me.
Cold, aloof, you will deal only with her assistants, she "doesn't return phone calls" no follow up...Would not recommend
Dr. Book spent a full hour with me to explain my condition, discuss treatment options, and even drew pictures of important functions. She explained her usual procedures but also pointed out that it is entirely my choice if I choose another path of treatment after researching. It is difficult to get an appointment most likely due to the lack of endocrinologists in the CO Springs area.
