Dr. Protopapas and her PA and nursing staff are the most caring, kind and compassionate people I am blessed to be seen and cared by. I'd be lost and in pain without them.
Dr. Protopappas and her staff are excellent. A great physician and a very caring individual.

My experiences with the Spine and Pain center have always resulted in an improvement in my pain situation and for that I am extremely grateful to Dr Protopapas and her excellently trained staff.
I call dr,. protopapas my MIRACLE WORKER. she has so improved the quality of my life
I thank the staff and physician for accommodating to take me in on a very short notice. I was satisfied with service.
Dr. Protopapas is an amazing physician. She is thorough and I appreciate the time she takes to explain everything and review my imaging to make sure nothing is missed. She has improved my pain and given me my life back. I am very appreciative.
Great care all around....keep up the good work! thank you
Absolutely love Dr. Protopapas. Very caring and knowledgable. The PA I saw was also extremely caring and knowledgable.
Dr. Protopapas is one of the most knowledgeable and skilled care givers I have ever encountered. Her tireless care to patient well being is truly remarkable. Also, she does an outstanding job of managing and focusing her support team. Together they provide seamless support to patient needs. Dr. Protopapas is also highly skilled at developing a strong sense of team belonging among her staff members. Her support staff is very dedicated to her and functions smoothly within her operational needs. This is a very impressive group to work with!
Dr. Protopapas and her entire staff have provided world class pain management care for me for many years ...she genuinely cares and executes her skills in a remarkable fashion.
I always feel that they care about me as a person and my overall health.
I found Dr. Protopapas to be extremely personable and listened when I responded to her questions. She was very on the ball and answered all my questions in ways other doctors have never done. She was very thorough and has an awesome bedside manner. Also her staff was great, her PA and her office staff I dealt with were totally nice and professional. I would absolutely recommend her to friends and family with confidence.
She is an amazing physician. A stickler for details and extremely smart. I trust her explicitly with my care. She has physically gotten me back on track. She performed a very technically difficult procedure on me and was able to address the problem while keeping me calm throughout the entire thing. Tazha is amazing and always explains things and answers my questions in detail. They are a fantastic team and I am lucky to have them as part of my care team.
Dr. P is one of the most compassionate doctors that I have ever seen. She makes coming a pleasure even for a procedure. I highly recommend her and your office.
Dr. Protopapas is such an extremely skilled, caring, and empathetic physician - truly a blessing! I fully realize that the "challenges" presented to her by the condition of my spine are extraordinary. I cannot imagine a way to say THANK YOU which properly conveys my profound respect and thankfulness for her care.
As always, Dr. P and her team excelled at what they do best, caring for patients and working to improve my quality of life!
I have found Dr. Protopapas and the staff to be very caring, offering their best medical advice and helping with my pain in every way they can. I so appreciate all they have done and continue to do to help with my pain. They explain the problem and offer the pros and cons of recommended treatment.
I have be seeing Dr. P for years. She is wonderful, considerate, thoughtful, professional and knowledgeable. She takes her time to understand you as a person and as a patient.
I received an epidural steroid injection (ESI) from Dr Protopapas. After the procedure I have now learned that the drug that Dr Protopapas used for the ESI (KENALOG-40) is NOT APPROVED BY THE FDA FOR EPIDURAL ADMINISTRATION. Dr Protopapas never informed me that she was injecting a drug into me on an off-label basis. Had I been properly and legally informed that the drug injected into me was NOT APPROVED by the FDA for epidural administration, I would have refused the injection. The package insert for KENALOG-40 from the Bristol-Myers Squibb website clearly states at the very top "NOT FOR EPIDURAL USE". Why is a drug being injected into people epiduraly when the package insert clearly states "NOT FOR EPIDURAL USE"? At minimum, informed consent should be obtained from each patient. This is something that I never received. I have also learned that ESIs are extremely dangerous. Several people have even died from ESIs. Arachnoiditis is also another very serious complication that may result from ESIs. I was never informed of any of these potentially very serious complications from ESIs. I would not recommend Dr Protopapas for any kind of invasive procedure due to her failure to give proper and legally required informed consent. For narcotic pain relievers she is probably OK.
Dr. P has really changed my life. She had a genuine interest in me and making me feel comfortable during a very difficult procedure. I have read some of her more recent reviews and I disagree. She tries to distract you during the procedure to take your mind off the procedure because she understood that I was really nervous. I hate needles but would go back and see her of I needed another injection. My neck pain already feels better!
All we heard was she is the best. Although she maybe smart, she is rude and condescending. If you don't mind being treated with disdain, she is the doctor for you.
If you have time to wait a couple of months for an appointment and you don't mind being poked fun at literally behind your back by this incredibly unprofessional doctor (in terms of bedside manners) and her assistant, by all means go ahead and schedule an appointment. This is a doctor who has a really good reputation and whose medical abilities I do not question, but who manages in a very short time to display an incredible lack of respect for patients. Not only does she always appear harried (don't overbook - it's your choice doctor), but she is tremendously impersonal and has a lack any interest in a patient. In my case, I have visible large scarring on my back and during my last visit, that scar's appearance apparently touched the doctor's funny bone and, in turn, that of her assistant in the room. They didn't even make an attempt to hide the snickering after the doctor quietly but visibly pointed out the scar to her assistant (you have a window in the room and it reflects, doctor. Some patients are especially observant). A callous lack of sensitivity and disregard of a patient's intelligence. Hello? I'm in the room. If you are willing to put up with someone who is so overbooked and busy that she has no time - takes no time - to listen to a patient, please go ahead and book an appointment. There's some space on the calendar in 2014, I think, but hurry...
I am so grateful to have found Dr. Protopapas. She is so kind and caring towards her patients and reassures you every step of the way that she will do everything she can to help you. I would recommend her to anyone.
i began seeig Dr. Protopapas in 2009 and she and her staff have truly been the best in every way. Dr. is a healer with all the qualities i was looking for in a Dr., very caring person, expert at her medicine, her Pa Jennifer is also great. I have been blessed to have found her and do not say that lightly-thank you for helping me with my pain
Dr. P is great and I would recommend her to anyone. I will agree with what others have said about her waiting list; it's looooooong- like, ridiculously long- months sometimes. But as soon as you finally get in for your appointment, you'll know why. She is the best at what she does. She makes what I have heard is normally a very painful procedure literally pain-free. I would not go to ANYONE else for spinal injections of any kind. Another plus is that she listens well. She'll take the time to listen to your full story (instead of cutting you off like so many other doctors I've seen). Great bedside manner too! I doubt her office sees children, but I bet she'd be great with them too- that's how compassionate she is. Definitely one of the best doctors around.
I've been seeing Dr Protopapas for three years, ever since I broke my back in a sports injury. The initial appointment was a bit of trouble, she and her collegues were booked solid for 3 months, but I asked to be considered if there was a cancellation and about two weeks later I was in. A couple of MRIs, two blocks and some physical therepy and I'm back up and running around, hopefully a little more carefully this time. Thank you Dr. P. And let's not forget Jennifer, Dr. P's Girl Friday (OK, she's also a PA), who makes Dr. P more accessible for all of us.
I just did my second visit to her office today. She was referred to me by Dr. Patel of Commonwealth Orthopedics (who I also am very impressed with.) I was very pleased with the services she provided (cortazone shots into the spine) which were recommended by my Dr. Patel. She concurred and actually declined to perform the two additional appointments that were initially recommended due to my back feeling much better. I would recommend her to other folks with back pain.
Dr Protopapas is a true "professional" in every aspect of the word! She has gone way beyond any normal call of duty to ensure that I have received top-notch medical care and advise while under her care. Her steady hands have consistently ensured pin-point accuracy with my injections... I attribute much of my recovery to her vast medical expertise! Thank you Dr P !!!
At my first visit, she was running a little bit late (the good doctors usually are), but during my exam it became apparent why. She spent a good amount of time getting to know me, asking smart, probing questions about my health history, etc. She didnt rush me through, and was genuinely concerned about relieving my back pain. Im 1000x better and have her to thank. Dr. P is the best, and I'd recommend her to anyone, no hesitation!
The wait is way tooo long...seems fake, the laugh is too phony...And the office in Herndon GHETTO! Where do they find these people? Think again..they are money hungry that organization!
she had decided what to prescribe, based on her needs. What she prescribed was fitting her financially. There was no care for me. The worst doctor I ever visited.
The BEST Dr. in every way, she has it all, expertise and professionalism, compassion and the best attitude towards her patients and her team of co-workers she respects and it shows in her spending time with you. Highly Recommend to any one who has a need for her services. I see her in the Herndon Offices and have been for over 1 year. sometimes hard to gt an appt with but totally worth the wait
Dr. Marina Protopapas does run late, but she is worth the wait. She is knowledgeable, kind and treats every patient with respect. I wold recommend her highly to anyone in pain because she can treat it in as little as two treatments.
Marina Protopapas is an excellent Doctor and listened very well to my concerns. She was thorough and genuinely concerned about my problems. After one injection I can already tell that my back is feeling much better and with a little therapy I'll be up and running in no time. She has helped me start to gain back the happiness that i'd lost with chronic back pain. I would recommend her to anyone.
