 |  Disabled Veteran Turned Away From Care  |  show details
by Jason D. on Nov 12th, 2014

Oh, so i am a disabled veteran, normally under treatment by the VA. Dr.Shi...uh, whatever his name is, has served well to disgrace even the lowest of those i've experienced in my dealings with private physicians and their willingness to endure bureaucracy to receive payment. Dr. God bless the USA took payment for my emergency surgery, refused me a follow up visit in his office (personally) because i didn't have a referral yet. I had a stent inside my body. He put it there surgically. I couldn't even get into an exam room to tell him how i was because i never made it past the front desk. I was sent away because i could not afford an out of pocket cost. I went immediately to the VA in Nashville, to the ER (6 hour round trip drive) and returned home. I was forced to wait for my turn in VA care, and landed in the ICU. Twice more to the ER (12 hours drive) and finally i got the surgery to complete what he wasn't willing to endure performing because of payment? Today in the mail i received a certified letter from the Good" Dr. Pay me Now, even if i know the federal government is footing the bill.) Guess what it says? It informs me of some cover his butt garb about how i "elected" this and that. He spent more time licking the envelope than considering his refusal and how it may affect my life. His actions, dear taxpayers, incurred upon you a total to date of more than 165,000.00 in hospital charges (mostly from ICU charges at the same hospital he has privilege s and had performed my emergency procedure) The Va will pay the bill. Which means, unfortunately (and thank you) you each are paying in taxes your allocated burden of his dereliction of decency. As i celebrated Veterans day yesterday i climbed a hill at Chattanooga's National Cemetery. I released a red balloon for a brother i had lost while i was serving on active duty. I am glad i lived to do so. I miss him. It is in his honor that i don't pursue this even more. I let it go in warning you. I am no hero. My Marine was. I was a Hospital Corpsman, and know good medicine from bad. I will heal. The next may not. - I you would like more information please feel free to email me at didicher@icloud.com P.s. they must have known they were doing something wrong because i called after noticing they had billed Medicare and the Va and the very nice lady in billing simply "wrote off" the $80 dollars i owed them according to my bill. (which i still keep) IS THIS NORMAL BEHAVIOR?
